yes the american dream is definitely over for the middle class and poor but the dream will continue for the top 1% who own 60% of the country's wealth.

its funny but when you think about it, america is becoming more and more like a third world country every day - the gap between the rich and the poor is widening, there is an all out assault on middle income workers or the middle class , the rich want to take away social welfare safety nets from the poor like health insurance and social security, education is now becoming too expensive for ordinary people, food prices are rising, unemployment is rising, inflation is rising and the dollar continues to depreciate.

"poor with no skills" - that sounds like that self hating ape bkbabe - so i can understand his anxiety.

"busted as a third world country" - try and find out how those countries became "busted" - many african countries are not poor, nigeria is not poor, DRC is not poor, south africa is not poor neither are ivory coast, botswana or even zimbabwe and libya is definitely not poor.

the issue is terrible economic policies and corrupt leadership, the leaders of many of these countries (with the exception of libya, botswana and zimbabwe) have taken on economic policies dictated by your govt and your financial institutions - ever heard of the IMF or the world bank? THEY ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR DESTROYING THE STANDARD OF LIVING OF ALMOST EVERY SINGLE AFRICAN NATION with their disastrous neo liberal economic policies which enrich a few elites at the top and keep everyone else poor.

But guess what? they are about to impose the same economic policies that they imposed on african countries on you lot over in america - you are about to have your standard of living drastically reduced, its already happening - look around you - how many people do you know at the moment with a job, how many people have had their properites foreclosed on?

since you think its impossible for america to end up like a third world country (ie where the rich live in opulence while the poor live in grim poverty)  -  perhaps you can explain why the republicans want to take away your social welfare saftey net and leave the most vulnerable people in your country without medicare and medicaid.  are  you also aware that they are trying to abolish your right to collective bargaining - in other words get rid of your unions - which means you can get sacked at the drop of a hat for no reason- this isnt exactly the behaviour of a country that is interested in protecting the most vulnerable people in society is it? last time i checked these are all practices that go on in third world countries but for some strange reason your country seems to be EMULATING these types of practices.

It will become survival of the fittest and for ordinary black people in america  - life will get extremely hard - already ordinary blacks are at a disadvantage being a minority, but when the sh.it hits the fan i can assure you that the whites will stick together to protect their own - so you can wave goodbye to your "americaness" when that happens.

Oh and if you doubt all that im saying  -research the activities of the IMF and their plans for all countries who are running budget deficits, while you're doing that you might want to take a look at greece - the people of  greece are now about to take a huge drop in their standard of living following recommendations from the IMF and various american and european banks because of their own budget deficit.

yawn - you are such an ignorant MF do you know that, why do you find it sooo hard to accept the truth?  Your pig ignorance is the reason you failed high school, its also the reason that you can  barely read or write coherent english.

you are going to be out on the street begging for loose change soon because you fall within the bracket of broke fools in america with no education and zero life skills, have they sacked you from your job at burger king yet fool?  Is that why  you sound so angry and frustrated?

not all black people are crazy about living in a country where not too long ago people who looked like you and I were forced to use the back entrance of shops, restaurants and even hospitals because whitey couldnt bear the thought breathing the same air as a black person.

If america is so fly why do you refer to it as amerikkka? - be real, you hate the fact that you are a poor, semi literate black man living in a country where you are treated like garbage by the people with the real power, thats why you get so enraged when people like me bring it to your attention, guess what? i am not going to stop doing it because you are a delusional self hating uncle tom and i find  your deranged ranting very entertaining

By the way dumbo why do you keep thinking that i need a visa to visit america, let me say it again - i have a british passport - therefore i dont need a visa to go to america, however im giving america a very wide berth because i dont want to be caught up in the coming economic meltdown - you thought katrina was bad - whats coming will make that look like a dress rehearsal, i can just see you in the middle of all of that -fighting over fried chicken with your "dawgs"  grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

hey if you dont like the truth how about doing the world a favour and comitting suicide - no one will notice - i promise you.

The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Nigeria [/b

]and continues to recommend U.S. citizens to avoid all but essential travel to the Niger Delta states of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers; the Southeastern states of Abia, Edo, Imo; the city of Jos in Plateau State, Bauchi and Borno States in the northeast; and the Gulf of Guinea because of the risks of kidnapping, robbery, and other armed attacks in these areas. Violent crime committed by individuals and gangs, as well as by persons wearing police and military uniforms, remains a problem throughout the country. This notice replaces the Travel Warning for Nigeria, dated October 19, 2010, to update information on violent activity and crime in Nigeria.

Violent crime committed by individuals and gangs, as well as by some persons wearing police and military uniforms, is an ongoing problem throughout the country, especially at night. Visitors and resident U.S. citizens have experienced armed muggings, assaults, burglary, carjacking, rape, kidnappings, and extortion - often involving violence. Home invasions remain a serious threat, with armed robbers accessing even guarded compounds by scaling perimeter walls; following, or tailgating, residents or visitors arriving by car into the compound; and subduing guards and gaining entry into homes or apartments. Armed robbers in Lagos also access waterfront compounds by boat. U.S. citizens, as well as Nigerians and other expatriates, have been victims of armed robbery at banks and grocery stores and on airport roads during both daylight and evening hours. Law enforcement authorities usually respond slowly or not at all, and provide little or no investigative support to victims. U.S. citizens, Nigerians, and other expatriates have experienced harassment and shakedowns at checkpoints and during encounters with Nigerian law enforcement officials. Traveling outside of major cities after dark is not recommended due to both crime and road safety concerns. There are regular reports of piracy off the coast of Nigeria in the Gulf of Guinea. Armed gangs have boarded both commercial and private vessels to rob travelers. The Nigerian Navy has limited capacity to respond to criminal acts at sea.

Since January 2009, over 140 foreign nationals have been kidnapped in Nigeria, including five U.S. citizens since November 2010. Six foreign nationals were killed during these abductions, while two U.S. citizens were also killed in separate kidnapping attempts in Port Harcourt in April 2010. Local authorities and expatriate businesses operating in Nigeria assert that the number of kidnapping incidents throughout Nigeria remains underreported.

In 2010, alleged Boko Haram members claimed responsibility for bombings in the country. A bomb exploded December 31, 2010, near a busy Abuja "fish bar," killing several people and injuring many others. On December 24, 2010, alleged Boko Haram members detonated several explosive devices in Jos, Plateau State, and conducted attacks against police and others in Maiduguri, Borno State, leading to significant casualties and property loss. In October 2010, Boko Haram members attacked various Nigerian government security personnel and facilities, government officials, and authority figures in northeastern Bauchi and Borno States. On October 1, 2010, two car bombs detonated near Eagle Square in downtown Abuja during Independence Day celebrations, killing ten and wounding many others. A Movement to Emancipate the Niger Delta (MEND) spokesperson claimed responsibility for this attack, while most former MEND militants publicly disavowed any links. Since then, this MEND spokesperson threatened further bombings in Abuja. In September 2010, over 150 members of the Boko Haram extremist religious sect escaped from prison in Northeast Bauchi, some of whom may be participating in Boko Haram attacks in other parts of the country. Since March 2010, five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have detonated in the Niger Delta region with one to three reported casualties.

A loose alliance of militant groups in the Niger Delta region has conducted a number of attacks against oil installations and posts of the Nigerian military's Joint Task Force (JTF), which had attempted to close the militant camps. In June 2009, the Federal Government of Nigeria offered unconditional amnesty to any militants willing to surrender their arms and accept the government's amnesty program. While almost all major militant leaders accepted the offer and the amnesty remains in effect, the potential for violence and the risk of kidnapping remains, with violent incidents involving "ex-militants" continuing.

Travel by foreigners to areas considered by the Nigerian government to be conflict areas without prior consultation and coordination with local security authorities is not recommended. The Nigerian government may view such travel as inappropriate and potentially illegal, and it may detain violators. Nigerian authorities detained six U.S. citizens, including journalists, on six occasions, in areas where militant groups had operated in 2008. The Nigerian government interrogated these U.S. citizens for lengthy periods of time without bringing any formal charges before ultimately deporting them. Journalists are required to obtain a special accreditation from the Ministry of Information prior to traveling to conflict areas in the Niger Delta region states. This special accreditation is in addition to the general press accreditation and a valid Nigerian visa which are required to conduct such activities elsewhere in Nigeria.

Many foreign oil companies operating in the Niger Delta states of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers have implemented "essential travel only" policies for their personnel. The U.S. Mission currently requires advance permission for U.S. government travel to these states, as well as the states of Abia, Edo, and Imo, the city of Jos in Plateau State, and Bauchi and Borno States, given the safety and security risk assessments and the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate General's limited ability to provide assistance to people detained by Nigerian authorities in these states. U.S. citizens who are resident in these states are advised to review their personal security in light of the information contained in this Travel Warning.

Nigeria is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious society in which different ethnic and religious groups often coexist in the same geographic area. Travelers throughout the country should be aware that, in areas where such circumstances prevail, there is the potential for ethnic or religious-based disturbances. The States of Bauchi, Borno, and Plateau have experienced violence by fringe sects or inter-ethnic groups in the past year.

U.S. citizens who travel to or reside in Nigeria are strongly advised to register through the State Department's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program(STEP). U.S. citizens without Internet access may register directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. By registering, you make it easier for the U.S. Embassy or Consulate to contact you in case of emergency.

U.S. citizens should contact the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos for up-to-date information on any restrictions. The U.S. Embassy in Abuja is open Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos is open Monday-Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The U.S. Embassy in Abuja can be reached by telephone, including after-hours emergencies, at [234(9) 461-4000]. The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos can be reached by telephone, including after-hours emergencies at [234(1) 460-3600] or [234 (1) 460-3400]. You may also visit the U.S. Embassy's web site.

U.S. citizens should also consult the Department of State's most recent Country Specific Information for Nigeria and the Worldwide Caution, which are located on the State Department's website. Up-to-date information on safety and security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. and Canada, or by calling a regular toll line, 1-202-501-4444, from other countries. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

Cap28 no need to get worked up with opinions that are different. There is nothing you say that one cannot research on. Information is out there.

My question to you is that I dont think the IMF can impose anything on the US that will be detrimental to their economy/lifestyle. Remember the US has a majority voting right (about 17%??) and as such have the power to influence etc. I dont think the IMF can implement any policies that will be detrimental to the US. The IMF is a tool for the US controlled by them. This is not like the effects the IMF loans IBB took on Nigeria's behalf (remember the good old days of SAP?) which was the downfall of the country?

I think the US is on its way down, but due to newer super powers emerging (China, Japan) and these 2 countries have almost 47% of us treasuries (debt). So figuratively, they have the US by the balls. While economically these countries are linked (import and export that China and Japan relies on), it isnt a safe position for the US to be in.

then again, the people making these assumptions have NEVER been here to see FRESH RUNNING WATER everywhere INDOOR TOILETS, FOOD PANTRIES FOR THE POOR, certain WELFARE refugees, free school up to 18 years old, free healthcare for poor kids, free school lunch, clean living conditions that look like opulence compared to Africa.

These are just a few services that We in Amerikkka take for granted. So for a NEGATIVE SELF LOATHING UGLY SELF DEFEATING immigrant living in the U.K. to opine that America will turn out like Nigeria is ludicrous.

not getting worked up at all just speaking the truth which some people are finding too difficult to handle.

The IMF CAN impose austerity measures on america if america goes into default and requires a bail out (as was the case with Greece) you have to understand that the IMF operates as an autonomous entity with powers which supersede sovereign nations.  The banking institutions are a separate and much more powerful entity than sovereign govts, their modus operandi is economic hijacking of the economy of any independent nation that defaults on its debt, it is the lender of last resort but the loans it gives come with draconian  strings attached - usually, mass sell off of all valuable public sector assets and the givign up of ALL of your sovereign rights - in other words any nation which takes on IMF loans has to turn over economic control of its nation to the IMF, they succeeded in doing this in nigeria when they recommended that we allow foreign investors to gain a 49% stake in our air industry as a result we now have virgin nigeria which is partly controlled by richard branson - a british national.  the IMF also recommended that we sell off PCHN again to "foreign investors"  what they did to us is similar to what they are doing to Greece but because Greece is a european nation that is why we are hearing the dissenting views, in our own case our govts quietly collaborated with the IMF and kept us in the dark about what they were up to, the only time we understood what had happened was when the austerity measures started biting us through currency devaluation, hyperinflation and mass unemployment, the same thing is going to happen with Portugal and if america defaults on its debts there is no reason why america will not go down the same route.

MandingoII, dont you think this is a little ignorant? While you share a difference in opinion, you seem to be making an assumption that whoever has an opinion about America's future is either stuck in Nigeria in a third world country (a term i abhor) or is an immigrant who should feel lucky. You might be a US born citizen, you might be in some cybercafe in lagos Nigeria. It makes no difference to the opinions and knowledge of each person.

Empires have always risen and fallen. History teaches us that (Roman, British etc), so nothing stops the US from falling as a superpower. This is not beyond the US. Give us arguments as to why you think it will not. Share your views with us.

That definitely means its over for you then -because as far as im aware the only time you can make an honest living in america if your only mode of communication is ebonics is:
a) if you are a stand up comedian
B) if you are drug dealer
c) if you are serving up fries and burgers in mickey dees
d) if you are a gang banger (see (b))

which of the above group do you fall into?

by the way i thought i told you in my earlier post that africa is not a poor continent, i was even so kind as to list quite a few african countries that are actually much richer in terms of natural resources than many european nations - but you still continue to bleat out that same old tired line about "afraka being a third world bustead azz country" did whitey completely finish you off with that terrible public school education that he brainwashed you with in order to keep you docile, inferior and subservient?
Let me say it again africa is not a poor continent thats why your former vice president D.IK Cheney spends billions of dollars in bribes all over africa in order to secure construction and oil and gas contracts for his company Halliburton, thats also why multinationals like Shell, Elf, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Coca Cola, Walmart are all scrambling to hold on to (or obtain )market shares in various african countries, that is why YOUR country is financing and arming terrorists in DRC in order to retain their hold over the coltan, diamonds and copper mining industry in that country, so for the last time, get it through your thick skull - YOUR PARASITIC, EVIL, RACIST, MEGALOMANIACAL GOVT is the CAUSE OF ALL THE INSTABILITY, WARS, POVERTY, UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES and ARMS PROLIFERATION that is going on in africa today.

then again, the people making these assumptions have NEVER been here to see FRESH RUNNING WATER everywhere INDOOR TOILETS, FOOD PANTRIES FOR THE POOR, certain WELFARE refugees, free school up to 18 years old, free healthcare for poor kids, free school lunch, clean living conditions that look like opulence compared to Africa.

This fresh running water, clean living conditions and access to quality social services  that you speak of was only made available to people of your race from 1968 onwards, i know you have no knowledge of your own history but prior to 1968 most black people in america were consigned to disgusting hovels which were owned by jewish slumlords who exploited you by charging extortionate rent, these rat infested cess pits were where people of your parent's generation grew up.

Black americans were BANNED from buying or owning property in the cleaner and greener suburbs on the outskirts of the cities.  these places were all inhabited by whites, as a result many of your people took up residence with cockroaches, rats and other terrible pests simply because whitey didnt think you deserved to be part of Roosevelts New Deal (go and read up on that as i know you know nothign about it) while you're at it read up about "redlining" which was a policy which prevented black americans from applying for cheap low interest rate mortgages like their "fellow" american citizens.
Therefore before you open your mouth to regurgitate trash why not take out time to find  out how your people used to live before whitey DECIDED TO ALLOW YOU to start living in homes with indoor toilets, running water, and central heating.  The truth of the matter is the only reason blacks in america live in reasonable sanitary conditions is because of the civil rights movement which FORCED the hand of the US GOVT.

Funnily enough many whites were not too keen on your people being given a tiny share of america's vast wealth and the US GOVT responded by GETTING RID OF YOUR MOST MILITANT CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS and replacing them with paid up uncle toms who were happy to turn a blind eye to the ongoing discrimination that people like you are still victims of - dont you think that is telling you something?

These are just a few services that We in Amerikkka take for granted. So for a NEGATIVE SELF LOATHING UGLY SELF DEFEATING immigrant living in the U.K. to opine that America will turn out like Nigeria is ludicrous.

hahaha you really crack me up, so, im negative becuase i tell you the truth about yourself and your country, but when you come on to an african forum talking out of your uneducated backside about a country you know nothing about you are being what? nice, positive, enlightening, uplifting, listen up mate - i have told you several times if you cant take the heat stay out of the kitchen, as i said before - you love to dish it out, but your self loathing, fragile ego simply cant cope when you are givne back, why is that?  are you that weak dawg?

Does it make you feel better to think that im an ugly immigrant?  does it make your life worth living to think that there is someone you can look down on - namely an african immigrant?  does it hurt you to the marrow to know that these "african immigrants" have come to the west and SURPASSED YOU on every level imaginable?  does it burn you B.ITCH? I am your nemesis (go and look it up) and i will continue to remind you of just how far behind me you are okay, now put that in your crack pipe and smoke it b.itch

Funny that a country with such a massive imbalance of trade is one of the strongest countries in the world.

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2187rank.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states_by_current_account_balance

How can a country living on a deficit be one of the superpowers of the world? Funny that Nigeria has a surplus and is ranked number 14 (CAB of 27 billion) and the US is 191 (with a CAB of -561 Billion)

I guess the intelligent economist on the forum can explain this to me as it doesn't make sense to me.

well it would make sense to you if you understood that america spends almost a trillion dollars a year on "defence" giving it the most advanced military in the world with the power to invade and take down almost every nation on the planet (with the exception of china and russia).

Its superpower status is now solely based on its superior military capability, it is in economic decline BUT it still remains a military superpower.

Everybody wants to be in Amerikka.

Nobody wants to immigrate to Nigeria.

It is FUTILE to argue with imbeciles. Ya'll just mad because America won't give you a Visa.

Major grocer getting rid of self-checkout lanes

One of the nation's major grocery store chains is eliminating self-checkout lanes in an effort to encourage more human contact with its customers.

Albertsons LLC, which operates 217 stores in seven Western and Southern states, will eliminate all self-checkout lanes in the 100 stores that have them and will replace them with standard or express lanes, according to published reports.

"We just want the opportunity to talk to customers more," Albertsons spokeswoman Christine Wilcox said. "That's the driving motivation."

employees will have a field day abusing the customers. undecided

Wilcox said the replacement of automated checkout lanes with human-operated lanes likely would mean more hours available for employees to work.

okey dokey then.

however, quite a lot of customer service these days is like nigeria's own- ie non-existent.

very true bro, they say you can lead a horse to the river, but you cant force it to drink.

Many functional illiterates like mandingo have been given the opportunity to educate themselves but prefer to spend their time watching things like  - p.imp my ride, mtv cribs, big momma's house and other crap produced by BET which keeps a lot of them illiterate, ignorant and full of inferiority complex.  This is why when you confront them with the truth they go into melt down, had this fool ever picked up a book in his life he would have known that every thing i have told him on here is the truth.  But the problem with him is not so much that he cant take the truth - its more like he cant take the fact that an african is telling him the awful truth about his great white master who he shares a love/hate relationship with .
He hates the way his master treats him like an unwanted pet but he loves the little crumbs that master sometimes throws his way when he wants to use him.
His white master has taught him to feel ashamed of his ancestry and this self hatred  is now embedded deep in his psyche.

This self hating creep uses every opportunity to bash anyone who reminds him of where he originally came from - he does this in order to try and ease his deep seated inferiority complex and self hatred, he also loves to convince himself that he is better than africans but every time he looks around and sees africans doing so much better than him he becomes suicidal, listen to the tone of his posts - they went from trying to be sarcastic to desperate anger and  frustration - this is how far gone this individual is- grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
