Fireboy DML has released his first single of 2022 entitled “Playboy.” The YBNL act’s last record was a remix of his global hit “Peru” with British singer Ed Sheeran.

On “Playboy,” Fireboy sings over a lush beat, with his ever silky vocals that make a telling impression on your musical appeal. His characteristic laid-back R&B and sensual melodic style that conjure poignant emotions are brought to the fore.

Similar to 2021’s “Peru,” listening to “Playboy” actually gets better with each passing play– the second listen sounds better than the first listen and the third listen out-excites the second listen like that.

“Peru” of course, charted in numerous countries and has now been certified gold by BRIT UK.



Artists pride themselves in being able to grow their music and grow alongside their fans. It’s exactly why Fireboy makes a subtle reference to his storied success over the past few years in the hook of “Playboy,” singing:

“Girl, don’t flex with the boy, your body is a mad ting she wanna roll with the mandem when i drop, yunno it’s an anthem… oof!”

Since his debut album in 2019, Fireboy’s rise to the pinnacle of Afrobeats has been unprecedented. So much so that he’s been touted the next Wizkid. That’s not because they have a similar style, but merely because of the telling impact their music is making around the globe.

However, while many critics will describe those comparisons to have come a tad early, there’s no limiting what the YBNL posterboy can achieve. Such is the talent and creative foresight that he wields.
