No NIgerian film has made up to US$2 million from the box office.
But South African films have made from over US$10 million to over US$200 million from the box office.

Omo Ghetto: The Saga, the 2020 Nigerian gangster comedy film co-directed by Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz became the highest ever grossing film in the Nigerian film industry in 2021 by making ₦636.1 million which was not up to US$2 million.

The biggest film industry in Africa is South Africa and not NIgeria by numbers of cinemas and highest grossing films.
District 9, the 2009 science fiction action film directed by Neill Blomkamp is the highest grossing South African film so far with over US$210.8 million from the box office followed by "The God's Must Be Crazy" - US$100 million; "Zambezia" - US$34.4 million; "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" - US$27.3 million; "Khumba )" – $28.42 million (which the producers even reached out to me for the publicity in 2013) and the critically acclaimed "Tsotsi" - $12 million. It was the first African film to win the highly coveted Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (now Best International Feature Film) in 2006.

Nigeria is not among the top ten countries with biggest box offices in the world. Nigeria does not even have one quarter of the number of screens in South Africa and South Africa is not among the top ten film industries in the world.

Being the second largest producer of movies on video in the world after India does not make NIgeria one of the biggest film industries in the world according to the indices of the economics of the global film industry.

.

I still wonder why we are so seriously behind in making captivating movies. And we've got so many Nigerian actors and actresses in Hollywood. They should have at least come to Nollywood rescue.

Because we prefer competing against ourselves in NIgeria to competing with the best in the global film industry. And we brag about local box office revenues like AY Makun's "Christmas in Miami" that made less than US$600, 000 and he brags that he has broken box office records?

It has to do with the nature of our story line which is not conventional and also promotes crime.

Yule Edochie will travel to the city and in few weeks time come back home with real wealth to show. You need to convince me seriously to believe.

We have some great movies, but competing against ourselves is the major obstacle to breaking through globally.

The bitter truth is most people working in nigeria film industry (actors, writers, filmmakers) lack talent and vision.
