Nigerian Government's "Favouritism" Towards Dangote by pmc01(m): 5:02pm On Mar 26, 2022
Nigeria’s billionaire business mogul, Femi Otedola in an interview on Channels Television at the commissioning of the Dangote Refinery commented on the major inspiration behind the construction of the refinery, by Aliko Dangote.

He said that in 2007, he and Dangote had formed a consortium called Blue Star to attempt to acquire the Kaduna and Port Harcourt refineries, but the take over was scuttled for a reason he didn’t state, prompting Aliko Dangote to make the decision to build his own refinery.

Quick takes here:

1) Dangote hasn't always enjoyed bias support from the Nigerian government as many like to believe.

2) In fact, it's not even a totally condemnable idea for a country to "protect" her prized asset.

While there should be a level playing field to a good extent, the need will always arise to entice the "star player" to maintain loyalty to the team.

Of course, that will be in exchange for him delivering the goodies. We can see here that Dangote is "repaying the faith" by gunning for the economic turnaround of not just his business empire, but the entire country.

If you still think this is unfair, we will have to question Manchester United about Dalot earning 1/20 of what Ronaldo earns in wages.

You get the point.

3) Otedola is one of the super rich in his own right. Rather than create some phantom competition with another super rich fellow, he has made a friend and mentor of him. Yes, he's not ashamed to "famz" Dangote.

This is opposed to the mindset of some of us youths today, who have made an enemy of every "big man" and would rather spend their fairly decent savings on competing rather than humble themselves to seek collaborations.

4) Reinvent and realign. You want to sit back to whine about missed opportunities or you want find a means to shoot again?

5) It's not enough to make profits. Are you building a sustainable business structure? You know Dangote could have chosen to "monopolize" importation and distribution of fuel, rather he chose the long term ... To refine.

Bonus:
Is there a possibility of converting diesel engines in heavy duty trucks to an hybrid system? So that they have the option of using petrol, without much compromise to effectiveness and efficiency.

I mean petrol is currently N165+ per litre, compared to diesel of N700+ per litre.

I'm not really a STEM person, so I wouldn't be too sure about that. Just wondering aloud.
