I own a Toyota Camry 2001 model. I have had to change timing belt almost every 2 to 3 months and this is the only issue the car have. Does anyone knows a permanent solution to this timing belt issue, because my cousin use same car and has experience same timing belt replacement issues.

Please advise...expects in the house

Check if you're having an oil leakage of any sort. Whenever the timing belt is soaked with oil it causes the weakness of the belt and it cuts before you know it.

You need to work on the engine. That's a sign the engine is due for a total overhaul or tune-up. Here our mechanics waste your money and time, then finally suggest you buy a new engine.

It was this same timing belt issue that forced me to sell my 1999 toyota camry in 2017. Imagine traveling and the belt cut off. I purchase another tokunbo in 2017 but I'm yet to experience timing belt issue on it. Check if there's no oil leakage, check the pulley and order for original timing belt. The car is very rugged but the timing belt is one of the issue associated with camry 1998-2001.

I was in your shoe until last year June. I was buying 2 belts, one spare incase it cuts in a lonely road. Mine was cutting every 2 months, until I came across a guy that advised me to buy Mitsuboshi and that was my savior, from June to now, no cutting. I Don travel east to Lagos twice and the belt never cut.

Don't buy any tokumbo belt, I spent 12k for tokumbo belt and it cut after one month.

Thank you all for your response and suggestions. My mechanic bought a Madza timing belt and used that one when he fixed it last few weeks ago and no issues yet. Also I noticed the oil seal at the timing belt compartment was leaking so he also changed the oil seal.

He is observing it for now. Let me see how long this one will last. I will try the Mitsubishi belt and also the tokunbo belt

What is the issue?

My shocks doesn't seem OK. Once I carry 3 persons or more at the back it depresses too low. I just all 4 last September. And it also makes a loud noise on potholes.

If the factory belt can cut any installed belt can also cut. What we are looking for is the longevity.

My mechanic got one one that last for over 6 months.

One major issue with the belt cutting is oil leak and pulley....if any of the rollers is bad or oil drop on the belt it will reduce the lifespan.

But this timing belt issue remains the major problem of 2000 Toyota Camry

I used mine for 8 years without any issue. I didnt open this engine for same period

I had same experience and after the one that came with the car broke, I have been changing it until my mechanic bought one that last more than 6 months.

He had to serve the rollers and also change oil seal around there to ensure no oil leaks.

I believe when the engine is not firing well it affects it and is the challenge I have now trying to get EGR vacuum modulator.
