Japan is much bigger than Russia at almost every level.
Russia's primary focus of wars and weapons usually don't grant them much desired victories when faced with the big boys. I expected a paradigm shift when faced with a small boy like Ukraine but the outcome so far has been woefully disappointing with Ukraine now reclaiming territories lost to the Russians just within 4weeks of war!
Within 4weeks their precision missiles are already considerably depleted they'll now have to increasingly rely on dumb Bombs to be dropped under gravity.
Russian army are better off defending than winning wars. They lack dogged fighters with dogged fighting spirits like the Japanese, British, and Germans.

A second war with Japan at this time will be the worst thing they can hope for. Not when the mighty America is behind the equally powerful Japanese. Japan has the capacity to fight far away from home and conquer.
Russia struggles within their own borders let alone outside of it. A country that couldn't sustain a robust ground operation just across their borders against a much weaker Ukraine(in a war they have superior air advantage) can't face one that conquers a whole continent.

However, this is not as if i like the Japanese. They are crazier and more aggressive than the Russians. In fact all countries can be crazy especially while under dictatorship.

America has 11 world class carriers, Russia has one. This mean they can take the war to your doorsteps. America has more submarines and very recent technologies too. Summary is that America has a better Navy.

America has more jet fighters and drones. Their F-35 and F-22 is the most advanced jet fighters in the world, unmatched by any other countries fighters.

They will actually take over the sky and do devastating damage.
Russia has more tanks but they are not been upgraded periodically. The Abram tanks of the US are more upgraded because America has the largest military budget than any country and so can afford to spend huge resources on research and development

Only 1/3 of America military men are on active duty. In the event of a war, the other 2/3 will be activated. Same thing applies to Russia. The only difference here is America has more funds to keep sustaining this additional troops because of their large defence budget. Russia may struggle to keep up in the long run.
