Oyi/ayamelum Federal Constituency: There’s No Need For Chnage Of Guard. by Newsline09(m): 3:49pm On Mar 31, 2022
As we Approach 2023 General elections, we must be intentional with what our interest is and be able to discern Need from Want.

Politics across the world is for development, people’s oriented leadership and creating partway for progressivism and sustainable impacts. It’s not a call for clout chasing and straw clutching. No society has ever developed following the wrong approach or perhaps using sentiment to grab power.

First, I will commend the people of Oyi and Ayamelum Federal Constituency for being progressive minded enough to jettison the dubious zoning that would have denied intellectuals and our brightest minds the opportunity to project better, the interest of our people. For me, that’s the first step to victory against those who have regrouped to kidnap and share to themselves alone our collective interest and destiny.

Since the return of Democracy, Oyi and Ayamelum had for the very first time witnessed representation at the Hallowed chambers, in the present Assembly.

Barr. Ofumelu despite being a first timer raised the bar and brought Representation closer to the people.

The essence of Representation is to bring to the fore and notice of the central Government the plight and need of the people.

In the last few years, Ofumelu has been knocking at every door of Infrastructural development which has been our bane in our Oyi and Ayamelum.

Myself and numerous others cannot recall the last time Federal Government embarked on Road Construction in Oyi or Ayamelum as facilitated through our Representatives; but since the election of Barr. Ofumelu, most part of Oyi and virtually all party of Ayamelum turned into construction site.

Barr. Ofumelu has also continued to use his position as member various committees to facilitate Jobs, skill acquisitions and other support for constituents which has in many ways reduced the status of youth unemployment in Oyi and Ayamelum.

At the last Stakeholders meeting, at the place of His Royal Highness, Igwe Kris Onyekwuluje, Vote of Confidence was passed in Favour of Ofumelu giving to his performance at the low Chambers of the National Assembly. It was to the delight of many that even those thought to be running for the seat of Oyi and Ayamelum also described Barr. Vincent Ofumelu as a star at the National Assembly who has done exceedingly well and beyond measures.

If we all agree that Ofumelu has well, to what need do we still ask for a change of guard?

I think what we all need at this point is to support the trail blazing Ofumelu to replicate same feat or more even in the next National Assembly regardless of party affiliation, perhaps, for him to seek the position of a Deputy Speaker or Chairman of other important committees that will further attract development to our Federal Constituency instead of going to square one with a first timer whom his ability and capacity to perform and make Law or oversight is under serious probe.

The National Assembly is not a parade ground for every Tom Dick and Harry, nor dump site for old retiring politicians, but a place for refined members of the society who can argue intelligently, engage in robust debates and push important Bills for the interest and wellbeing of the people.

Up Next, we will highlight the achievements of Barr. Vincent Ofumelu and bring to the fore most his Infrastructural projects, Motions and Bills.
