Are you someone who is confused about how to ship your product safely to the customer? It can be daunting to ship products to customers, and fragile shipping items add an extra layer of difficulty. You wouldn't want to send faulty products to your customers because they'll lose trust. You can prevent fragile items from breaking by following these tips for shipping fragile items.

1) Double box fragile items

Fragile items need extra protection; double-boxing these items can help ship expensive, fragile products. If you want to double-box your package, measure its length, width, and depth and add 6 inches to them. Based on this measurement, your outer box will need to have 3 inches of the inner pack on all sides. Place approximately 3 inches of inner-packing in the bottom of your outer box (large bubble wrap, packing peanuts, or foam corners work well). Your original packaging should be centered in the box, and the inner packs should fill all sides. As you continue to add the inner pack, your original packaging will be covered, and the outer box will be filled. Tape the outer box with H-tape.

2) Tape Correctly

Well-taped packaging can distinguish between a safe shipment and a damaged product. Bubble envelopes are generally self-sealing, but both mailing tubes and corrugated boxes need to be taped.

The type of tape you choose is important to keep your products safe. Don't use duct tape or masking tape when packaging products for shipping. Rather, use pressure-activated plastic tape ( generally referred to as packing tape) or water-activated tape.

For mailing tubes, secure the boundaries of the tube with tape after closing them. This helps prevent them from blowing up open during shipment. For standard shipping boxes, use the H-taping method on the top and bottom of the box.
Mailer boxes that don't have locking tabs and are dispatching without an external box also need to be taped.

3) Know which container to choose

The type of container you choose completely depends on your product type. Here are some of the container types and their uses:

Mailing Tubes

Mailing tubes can be a well-grounded option for specifically long, relatively fragile products, such as telescopes and rolled paper products. When used to ship paper products such as posters, these shipping containers can frequently be used as-is and give good crash protection. For products that need shock protection, make sure to wrap the product in bubble serape before placing it in the mailing tube.

Corrugated Boxes

These are frequently the default pick for shipping fragile products, and with good reason. In fact, corrugated boxes (often mistakenly thought of as cardboard) can be used in many ways to pad and provide stability.

Bubble Mailers

Bubble mailers are perfect for small, fragile products, such as jewelry. Bubble mailers give good protection without the added space of boxes.

4) Right-Size the Packaging

Fragile items should be packed in boxes that match the contents of the packages, leaving 2-3 inches on all sides for inner packaging. To determine the size of the box you need for your item, measure the length, width, and depth, then add 4-6 inches to each measurement. It is generally recommended to use 4 inches for boxes that will be double-boxed, while 6 inches should be used for boxes that will only be single-boxed. If you are packing more than one item, add two inches between each item.

5) Choose the Right Inner-Pack

Inner-pack is anything that goes inside of a package to give extra padding, support, and/ or shock resistance. There is a wide range of options available, from bubble wrap to custom inserts, and each has its advantages.

Shipping fragile items can be daunting, but not anymore. Now you know all the safety tips to pack any fragile products, don't forget to use them!
