They are not suffering anything. You guys don’t understand the dynamics of what’s going on. Gas price has always been cheaper for Americans spending dollar in Mexico than for Mexicans themselves even before the Russian invasion. It’s because dollar goes way more in Mexico.

Now that gas price has increased in the US, it’s not like the increment makes gas too expensive to buy. No it’s not. It only makes Mexican gas more affordable for Americans that can afford to cross the boarder to Mexico. Americans will get more in Mexico for the same price they pay across the boarder.

It’s human nature. Even if gas if 10 naira in your street, you will not mind going to the next street to get it at 9 naira. Does it mean that 10 naira is too much for you to afford? No. You only exercise human nature of wanting more for what their money can buy.

You’re deflecting from your original statement but I’ll double down on mine: the US and UK aren’t suffering and you will feel the effects of this war more than the citizens of the US and UK. Instead of wishing for suffering, you should pray that there is none because the same US and UK that you wish suffering upon are Nigeria’s 2 biggest sources of foreign aid. If bad comes to worse, foreign aid would be one of the first things cut. Tell me, how much does Russia give to Nigeria every year? Is it more than the $803 million the US gives?

It's best to provide poor families with higher welfare checks.

In Mexico, they operate conditional cash transfers to poor families. The money is usually paid to mothers who ensure their kids are going to school and meeting other metrics.

This has been found to be very effective in alleviating hunger and poverty. The fact that the money is paid to mothers ensures the money is not spent on booze, women and gambling as if women don't play Baba jebu.

Increasing payouts to poor mothers will be better. Subsidies can lead to economic distortions, waste and sleaze. Also, the biggest beneficiaries are car owners and not the poor who don't own cars. Americans for instance are crossing the borders to load up. The richest benefitting most from subsidies. It's not fair.

Hispanics are the 2nd largest demography in the US. Two-thirds are Mexicans. That's quite a sizeable number.

Also, i worry about these Ukrainian refugees. They may receive the welcome mat now but are you sure they won't be resented some time in the future?

Look at what happened in the UK? The UK opened its door wide open to influx of new EU citizens from Central Europe. UK only thought a few would come but it was a deluge. It was the deluge that led to Brexit.
