Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing (IVM) has announced plans to establish a manufacturing plant in Owerri, Imo state.

Innocent Chukwuma, chairman of Innoson Group, revealed this on Friday during a facility tour of the Anambra state plant.

He stated that the plant in Imo is part of the company’s efforts to realize its vision of becoming an African vehicle manufacturing behemoth.

“The Innoson factory expansion will be located in Imo’s Naze Owerri.” “We have already acquired approximately 150,000sqm of land for this project, and construction is currently underway,” he said.

Cornel Osigwe, head of corporate communications for the Innoson Group, also spoke, expressing delight at Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra, endorsing Innoson vehicles.

According to Osigwe, the endorsement demonstrated the vehicle’s durability and capacity.

“Governor Soludo is the first governor to use Innoson vehicles as official vehicles, and we hope that such endorsement will lead to increased patronage from other state governments, corporate organizations, and well-meaning Nigerians,” he said.

“At the moment, IVM manufactures vehicles for about five African countries, including Sierra Leone, Mali, Congo, and Côte d’Ivoire.”

According to him, the company is currently transitioning from manual to fully automated production.
He added that the manual production plant has a capacity of about 10,000 vehicles per year, but once the migration is complete, production capacity will increase to about 60,000 vehicles per year.

The Nigerian Union was present for the facility tour of Journalists (NUJ) correspondents’ chapel in Anambra.

Innoson has seen the benefit of automation. In the past, he only wanted to use manual labour but he has seen that the space used in producing 10,000 vehicles can produce 60,000 with automation.
