The purpose and benefits of the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program are as follows:

The following expenses will be covered by the scholarships:

Reimbursement of expenses incurred in the processing of visa applications
A one-way economy class air ticket from their home country to Cape Town, South Africa for recipients who are I citizens and/or residents of a Sub-Saharan countries other than South Africa or ii) resident in South Africa but outside of the Cape Town metropolitan area.
Tuition and fees for international students are in full.
The University of Cape Town's student housing scheme provides accommodations for students.
The University of Cape Town's student housing scheme provides meals to its residents.
Coverage for medical expenses from a reputable medical aid service provider
The amount of your living allowance will be used to cover unforeseen expenses related to your study.
In order to acquire the appropriate texts for your degree program, you will be given a book allowance.
All expenses incurred in connection with community service activities as defined by the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Program at the University of Cape Town.
Possibility of obtaining an internship opportunity
After completing their studies, recipients who are I citizens and/or residents of a Sub-Saharan country other than South Africa, or ii) residing in South Africa but outside of Cape Town, will be provided with an economy class air ticket back to their home country.

Student participants in the Program will obtain mentoring, leadership training, academic and life skills support, among other benefits. Tutorial services, language training, writing circles, and guidance counseling will all be provided as part of the academic support.

Scholarship Program Requirements for the Mastercard Foundation

Qualification for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program is based on the following criteria:

Candidates who wish to be considered for the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Program at the University of Cape Town must meet the following requirements in order to be considered
Academically gifted students must place a high value on learning and be motivated to complete their studies.
The student is socioeconomically disadvantaged and faces severe financial obstacles to obtaining an education.
Once their studies are completed, they are determined to give back to their own communities by returning to their home countries and taking a leading position in the promotion of social and economic betterment there.
In order to better the lives of others, future leaders must be committed to embracing ethical leadership.
A demonstrated commitment to community service demonstrated through participation in community outreach activities in the past and/or present
Citizens and permanent residents of a country in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Interested in pursuing a degree at the undergraduate or graduate level (Masters by research  coursework or research Masters, only). Applicants for honors will be considered beginning in 2016.
Interested in studying at the University of Cape Town in the subjects of commerce, engineering and existing building, health sciences, humanities, law, or sciences? Fill out an application.
To be considered for the Scholarship, all prospective Scholarship must first be accepted into the University of Cape Town's undergraduate program. Despite the fact that each academic department has its own requirements, a minimum of 60% for the Honours or equivalent degree is the overall educational criterion for admission to the Masters' program.
Preference will be given to students who are 'first-generation,' that is, those who are the first members of their families to attend college or university.
