National Development Planning stakeholders across the 36 states of the federation have converged on Abakaliki, Ebonyi to chart ways of achieving sustainable economic development process for the country.

The stakeholders under the auspices of the Joint Planning Board (JPB) and the National Council on Development Planning (NCDP) are holding the discourse which is its 21st edition, from April 6 to 8, 2022.

Mrs Olusola Idowu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and National Planning welcomed the participants and noted that the discourse will seek ways of addressing the nation's development planning challenges.

"These challenges include: weak economic decisions, policy inconsistency, monocultural dependence on oil, among others.

"Leaders and followers should collaborate in achieving sustainable national development through accountability and good governance.

She urged the stakeholders, to consider the economic realities facing the country while profering solutions to national development planning challenges.

"I commend Governor. David Umahi of Ebonyi for delivering democratic dividends to Ebonyi people through the provision of quality infrastructure, education, among others.

"I also commend the state commissioner for finance and economic development, the permanent secretary of the ministry among others for ensuring the effective implementation of the government's economic policies.


Gov. David Umahi, represented by his Deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe welcomed the participants to the meeting and assured them of the best hospitality from the government and people of Ebonyi.

"I am delighted to see relevant officials of the federal government, commissioners for finance, budget, development partners among others in the Ebonyi and this is a positive development for the state.

"We wish you success as you engage in technical discussions geared towards achieving optimum approach to increase the nation's economic planning process.

The theme of the discourse is, "Good governance and institutional capacity: pathways to sustainable national development.

Relevant stakeholders offered their goodwill messages at the occasion as the discourse is expected to be declared closed by Vice President Yemi Osibanjo on Friday.
