Sit-at-home: Offices, businesses shut as residents desert Owerri

The ever- busy Imo government House Roundabout: Bank Raod area deserted on Monday morning as residents observed IPOB'S sit-at-home order despite its cancellation a fortnight ago. Photo: Chidiebube Okeoma.

Owerri was a shadow of itself on Monday as the Imo State capital was totally deserted by residents and businesses in compliance with the sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Banks, shops, schools, Marketplaces, and other offices were shut in Owerri. While vehicles moved intermittently, the streets in the state capital were empty.

From Okigwe Road to Imo state University junction, Ikenegbu, Mbari, Wetheral, Douglas, Teltlow, Bank Road, Government house roundabout, Orlu road to MCC, the streets were literally abandoned.

Also, government house offices, especially, the Internally Generated Revenue office, situated on Owerri- Okigwe Road in Owerri, were deserted.

Peace Mass Transport Office at Orji Flyover, Imo Transport Company park at MMC road, and the other major parks at Egbu Road was also not functional on Monday.

Relief market, Umuonyeali and Naze word markets, Ekeukwu Owerri and other markets like Orji and Amakaohia and Akwuakuma markets were almost shut.

A resident who refused to disclose his identity said that the insecurity in the state was the cause of almost the total compliance with the sit-at-home order.
While he expressed concerns about the dwindling economy of the state, urged the State Government to stamp out insecurity in the state

So what was posted on front page was fake. Nairaland are fun of posting things on front page without verification.

I knew it was fake, but I just keep mute. Even if the igbos wanted to defile sit at home order, the amount of people on the street wouldn't have been that much.

Is Soludo powerful than the supreme court governor? If supreme court governor with the help of federal government cannot stop sit at home is it Soludo of today that will stop it? With his myopic approach. I laugh.

Abiama bless Simon Ekpa, the great.

Simon Ekpa is greater than Nnamdi Kanu, Ikemba ojukwu, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Charles Soludo, Peter Obi and Ken Nnamani all combined. undecided

For those crying more than the bereaved, you have not seen something. As far as MNK is still in detention, Monday will remain holy for us
