Entrepreneurship will reduce poverty and unemployment – ITF

Unemployment and poverty will be eliminated, according to the Industrial Training Fund ITF, provided Nigerians are trained with the necessary skills.

Director-General, ITF, Mr Joseph Ari, speaking at the graduation of the 2021 National Industrial Skills Development Programme, ITF/ISTC, Ikeja, explained that if Nigerians were equipped with life skills, they would be able to take advantage of the federal government’s numerous policies aimed at boosting the economy and improving the standard of living.

A total of 100 people benefited from the program, who were also given start-up packs.

“I think that if Nigerians are provided with appropriate skills, unemployment and poverty would be minimized, as will the attendant damages they have on all areas of our national life,” Ari, who was represented by Director, Research and Curriculum Development Department, Mr Zaccharia Piwuna, stated. It will separate unemployment from the pointless acts of violence that have taken the lives of thousands of people across the country.

“It would be difficult to distinguish between increased criminality and destructive social vices performed by Nigerians, so we must work hard to find a solution to these problems.”

“As leading human capacity development institutionin Nigeria, we are committed to implementing skills acquisition programs to equip Nigerians with life skills for employability and entrepreneurship so that they can take advantage of the federal government’s numerous policies aimed at boosting the economy and improving Nigerians’ standard of living.”

He also urged state governments, organized business, non-governmental organizations, lawmakers, and other stakeholders to work with the ITF to train more Nigerians.

Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, Commissioner, Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, urged the recipients to use their start-up packs rather than selling them.

Arobieke who was represented by Director, Entrepreneurship Development, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Taiwo Abiose, noted that skills acquisition was the most long-term solution to poverty and unemployment.

“The most long-term strategy to fighting poverty and unemployment is to empower our society’s youth and the vulnerable in our society,” she said. I am certain that in order for Nigeria to properly industrialize, we must all prioritize the development of relevant and current skills.”

Mr James Fanope, the Training Manager of the Industrial Skills Training Centre, exhorted Nigerian youths to study and embrace skills, stating that new technologies will let them become labour employers.
