I am now begining to question, the purpose of studying abroad.

Almost all our elites and their children all study abroad but none of them can bring development to Nigeria. It is just a shame.

Look at China and India, about half of their elites children are all studying in the Western world but these people have been able to make their country successful.

I was reading an article which says China and India control about 20% of the world wealth, that is because of the transfer of knowledge from the western world to their society.

Here in Nigeria, the story is different, our elites all travel abroad, many of their children live and study abroad, attend prestigious universities like Harvard and oxford, some of these people eventually become our political leaders on our society but none has been able to make Nigeria grow.

It is just a pity, Nigeria is the gaint of the black race but nothing good has come out of it, someone would have expected that with the way some of these people study abroad, we would by now have great writers, great scientists and inventors, great engineers and architects designing solid infrastructures but what we have is great complainers, people with degrees to the phd levels spending all their days on Twitter complaining and argueing all day and night.

It is so sad.

It cannot happen because there is no sense of patriotism in most Nigerians. Those that preach one Nigeria are the greatest hypocrites.

It's because we're not deliberate enough as a people.

President Buhari's last daughter studied Photography and Davido studied music. DJ Cuppy and the Otedola Sisters, Tiwa Savage, Banky W etc all majored in the Arts.

There's nothing wrong with following one's passion but to develop, nothing is left to chance.

We do not keep hoping that the children of wealthy men who are already too achieved to execute difficult tasks will work hard and transfer technology home. That's being opportunistic. We have to be deliberate.

It isn't the average Chinese or Indian that studies at Harvard, Stanford or MIT that transfers technology back home. It is usually the students on espionage. The classroom teaches the fundamentals that need to be applied in each discipline. That is not enough knowledge to change a system.

For example, a pharmacy student at Harvard learns medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics etc from first year to final year. Apart from access to standard modern laboratories, the syllabus is not very different from what students learn in Nigeria and the knowledge is not enough to change the Nigerian Pharmaceutical Industry. What is important is what is going on in the research buildings and factories of big pharma companies like Pzifer.

A Nigerian pharmacist who graduated from Harvard knows the basics behind vaccine creation for instance, but he can never know the formula behind chemotherapy drugs or Covid-19 vaccine for now except from those who have spent billions to research on it or he spends his own billions to research on it. Before he gets billions to research for his own formula, the world must have moved on. Just steal it! (What is taught in the classroom is how to light up a cooker, use a pot and cook. The aim is to prepare Pizza which is only learnt at Pizza kitchens. Telling ordinary students who left the classroom to fix Nigeria is like telling them to prepare Pizza. It will take them weeks if not months or years to prepare Pizza without knowing it's recipe even though they know how to light a cooker and put a pan on fire. If they know the recipe for the pizza, it would take them less than an hour.)

That is espionage through studentship. The student must be an outstanding, exceptional and brilliant student who is an agent of the state sponsored to IVY league schools for the very essence of transferring technology that can help Nigeria progress. While the average Nigerian student who studied was sent to study pharmacy and make his parents proud is just there to study and pass, the students on espionage are there to "compulsorily" graduate on top of their classes, get attached to firms(or
employees of firms, professors offering special solutions to the firms) and steal information that must be sent back immediately.

I've made a lot of grammatical errors just logged in to type this. I'm really busy.
