The Presidency on Monday took a swipe at the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, for his continuous criticism of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and his regime, asking him (Kukah) to consider joining partisan politics and see how far he can go.

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, made the Presidency’s position known in a statement titled ‘Kukah’s virus of hate.’

Shehu was reacting to Kukah’s Easter sermon on Sunday in which he knocked Buhari’s regime over security challenges, corruption and disunity being witnessed in the country.

Quoting different biblical passages, the presidential spokesman faulted the bishop, saying “from his pulpit, he devoted his Easter message not to Christ’s death and rebirth so Man might be saved – but to damning the government in the most un-Christian terms.”

While accusing Kukah of neglecting Bible’s teachings, Shehu said Easter should be a time for renewal, and for hope and “not a time for religious leaders to play politics, or politicians to play religion.”

He added, “Nigeria knows too well Bishop Kukah’s views of the government. He has made quite clear how much he dislikes them from the day they were elected.

“Whether expressing his political views is a good use or an abuse of religious office is for others to decide. But the people of Nigeria have spoken – twice: they support this government at the ballot box. They have not been swayed by hateful talk from any bully-pulpit.

“We respectfully ask Bishop Kukah to leave government to the voters and the politicians they elect, while he concentrates on his job, as it is expressed in James 1:27: ‘Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.’

“Or else, he should put away his clerical garb, join partisan politics and see how far he can go.”

Evil party full of lies, blames, killings, kidnappings, borrowings and corruption. Why does the world hates the truth so much? Can you imagine even Garba quoting the Bible so as to run way from the truth of the century? Just accept what the man of God has said and make good corrections instead of doing the opposite.

. What Kukah told Americans about Nigerian situation at the Religious Freedom Hearing
—Says he has no proof of how Buhari divides Nigeria
—Accuses him of hatred against the president

THE Presidency last night told the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, His Grace Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah to put away his clerical garb and join partisan politics to test his popularity.

The Presidency also accused the Catholic cleric of always dabbling in politics and spreading hate against President Muhammadu Buhari

Reacting to Bishop Kukah”s Easter message where he allegedly accused the President of dividing Nigeria against religious and ethnic lines, the Presidency said that the Catholic Bishop refused to give any proof to the allegations.

In a statement titled, “Kukah’s virus of hate” which was signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President in media and publicity, the Presidency said:

“As the nomination congress approaches, rumblings within the party rise to an acrimonious crescendo and the troubleshooting market blossoming in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP, which is in desperate yearning for his tested skills, we are surprised- so too are many others- that the Bishop of Sokoto Province, the Most Rev Mathew Matthew Hassan could still find the time for a lengthy homily on his usual target, Muhammadu Buhari, the President of Nigeria.

“For a man who has been spreading hate for decades, nothing new in the homily, except for the fact that while millions of Christians were remembering the Lord’s crucifixion on Friday, His descent on Saturday, His resurrection on Sunday, and subsequent appearance to his disciples, Bishop Matthew Kukah was playing politics.

“From his pulpit, he devoted his Easter message not to Christ’s death and rebirth so Man might be saved – but to damning the government in the most un-Christian terms.

“Bishop Kukah neglects the Bible’s teachings in James 1:26: “If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless”.

“Easter should be a time for renewal, and for hope. For those in authority – both temporal and spiritual – to come together in word and deed so those who look to them for example can be inspired by their grace.

“This is not a time for religious leaders to play politics, or politicians to play religion. It is a time, as in Titus 3:9 to “avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless”.

“Yet Bishop Kukah used his sermon purposefully to make dissensions and quarrels about the law. His accusatory list against the government revealed only his hatred for them.

“Still, when he accused them of division, he gave no examples: merely assertions emanating from his own mouth. His allegation of the ethnic and regional divide was innuendo without proof, and he gave none.

“His list of things he claims as broken – from churches to mosques to schools and motorways – belies all those that have been built, and others built anew during this government’s time in office.

“Should he feel compelled for whatever reason to criticize the government for what he views as their mistakes the Bible makes clear how it should be done: “Brothers if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness”, Galatians 6:1-2.

“If Bishops or religious leaders believe they have a willing audience for tales of government error or fragility, they do an injustice to their flock by filling their ears with talk of division and hateful thoughts.

“Nigeria knows too well Bishop Kukah’s views of the government. He has made quite clear how much he dislikes them from the day they were elected.

“Whether expressing his political views is a good use or abuse of religious office is for others to decide. But the people of Nigeria have spoken – twice: They support this government at the ballot box. They have not been swayed by a hateful talk from any bully pulpit.

“We respectfully ask Bishop Kukah to leave government to the voters and the politicians they elect, while he concentrates on his job, as it is expressed in James 1:27: “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”

“Or else, he should put away his clerical garb, join partisan politics and see how far he can go.”

They are really feeling the heat from Kukah. The best way to silence Kukah is for them to do the right things as a govt., but since they aren't interested in solving the country's challenges, they have left the issues raised by Kukah, to attack the personality of Kukah.

It's quite laughable to see Lucifer quoting the Bible.

Fr Kukah has his own calling and never asked for people's mandate. Therefore, those that asked for it should at least deliver. Buhari and Osibanjo led government is the greatest scam ever

One thing I have learnt from APC government is

Ones you build any government/relationship with lies ,

You will need to keep lying to sustain that Government/ relationship

BUhari’s government was built on lies and they hate hearing the truth

What I find most distasteful is that Osinbajo still calls Buhari a man of integrity even when the latter pardoned two former state governors who looted their states dry and the judiciary sent them to jail for abuse of public trust.

I'm sure that Justice Adebukola Banjoko would be somewhere crying when she heard that Buhari had pardoned those idiots she sent to jail.

These two men are clearly shameless, evil and are out to destroy what's left of this shithole. Interestingly, Osinbajo still calls himself a pastor and still preaches the Word of God.

Little wonder the Bible says that judgment will start from the church because the so-called god of men have exploited, misled and destroyed a lot of people (1 Peter 4:17)

Some pastors can be so overbearing. Kukah and Oyedipo are so partisan when it comes to criticism of this government.
They hardly pray and suggests any meaningful things to the government.
Hahaha.... As a Christian, you are mandated to pray for your leaders. As religious leaders, kukah included, is mandated to nurture his sheeps in godly ways, which include;love, kindness, meekness, cheerfulness, truthfulness, and abhors corruption, destruction, killings.
See,the problem of Nigeria is a collective problem and needs collective solutions and resolutions to solve it. The people in government (our leaders/tormentors)only account for 35% of the problems. Religion, illiteracy/ignorance, poor parenting and dysfunctional homes/families, and poor education and educational system along with weak/imperfect government institutions account for about 60% of the problems, the remaining 5% depend on the will of individuals to accept and managed changes.

I don't know why our political leaders never like hearing the truth.

Obasanjo never liked the truth.

Yar'Adua did not care.

Jonathan always lamented about the truth and considered corruption reports in his regime as mere case of ordinary stealing. Also since dollars is American money, if $20b is truly missing from our oil revenue, America would have known.

Buhari is deaf to the truth, even his wife cannot believe the character somersault and has kept her distance.

No need to reply Garbage Nshiehu, the fact that key politicians in the north are dumping APC openly shows you that the Buhari aura that wins votes in the north is dead.
Mark this, any candidate that Buhari endorses will lose as long as it's not Buhari on the ballot and the northern politicians know this except if Buhari is allowed to context for 3rd term.

Bishop Kukah and Imam Khalid have told his principal the bitter truth and there's no need to respond to a man like Garbage who is dancing naked in the market square under the guise of defending the indefensible failure of his boss in governance
