Daring Islamist militants in Nigeria's northeastern cities of Maiduguri and Bauchi today confronted Nigerian securitys agencies as they escalate their dreadful insurgency in the north.

At about 7:30am local time in Maiduguri, Borno State, Boko Haram members armed with AK 47 assault rifles tossed an IED at a military checkpoint at Abba Ganaram, killing seven soldiers. After the Boko Haram militants had completed their brazen attack and left the area, soldiers began patrolling the city, terrorizing local residents.

In nearby Bauchi State, a second batch of Boko Haram militants invaded the Divisional Police Headquarters in the Toro local government area. They broke into the police armory and took away arms and ammunition while the policemen guarding the station fled for safety. It is not yet clear if there were any casualties in that attack.
