Don’t Negotiate With Boko Haram, Us, Eu Warn Fg by jmaine: 1:10am On Jul 09, 2011
As the concern over the Boko Haram terror attacks mount across the country, there are indications that the United States and European countries have warned the Federal Government not to enter into any negotiation with the Islamic insurgents, who have turned many parts of Northern Nigeria to a killing field since the beginning of the year.

A top security official told SATURDAY PUNCH in Abuja on Friday that negotiation with the members of the sect was foreclosed as the US, the United Kingdom and other European powers had agreed with the government’s decision to fish out the members of the sect.

The top security official confirmed to SATURDAY PUNCH that the Western powers had advised President Goodluck Jonathan against going into negotiation with the members of the sect, who have claimed responsibility for detonating several improvised explosive devices in some states of the North and the Federal Capital Territory.

In one of its most daring acts, Boko Haram had bombed the Nigeria Police Force headquarters – Louis Edet House – on June 16, 2011 shortly after the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, had driven into the car park of the facility in a convoy.

It was gathered that the West believed that those behind the attacks, which have left scores of people dead mainly in Borno, Bauchi, Kaduna and the FCT, were terrorists without a cause, and that should not bring them to the negotiation table with the government.

They probably have more information than the entire SSS can dream of. And why should anybody in his right mind think of negotiating with Boko Haram? They have a death-wish, and that's all they are interested in - k-illing and being k-illed.

Look at what they did to those  former governors. BH asked them to apologise, and like mumu they did. Only for their apologies to be rejected. You know what, BH did not in their dreams expect governors to tender an apologies to their satanic sect, but lo and behold this is Nigeria.

BH will do what it will do - any talk of negotiations is sleeping with fire on the roof.

The nadir of nigeria of existence will be when people fighting without are given recognition, this would amount to total cowardice on the side of the gov't. What this implies is that the bokos are the real owners of the; they can do anything and go scotfree. Applying diplomacy in handling the eediots will only add to their ego and power.

"don't negotiate with terroists" that pig headed approach is not working in Afghanistan!
Why must Nigeria make the same mistake?

Because if they negotiate and grant "their" request than the US and EU will have to come up with a new way to disintegrate nigeria by 2015. This boko haram nonsense seems like conspiracy and the workings of non-african entities.

If it takes MOSSAD, CIA, KGB whatever to smoke out the BK and their fanatical islamic backers, I say go for it, smoke them out and kill them like flies.

um . . . . That would be the Afghan Government itself doing that, not the US Government. I think the whole world knows that story so well that I wonder why you would be in darkness of the facts of what really took place there up till now.

Back to Nigeria, your government NEGOTIATED with MEND, how did that go? Are you going to tell us all it went well? It is abc to state at this point that negotiating with another terrorist group operating within the borders of the same country would likely lead to catastrophic end for the people.

Then again, I am not certain this story, and so many others pointing to the FG trying to negotiate once more with terrorists, rather that move in full force to protect the people.

Terrorists are not to be negotiated with because it makes them more dangerous especially when they are faceless, they should instead be rooted out and destroyed completely!!!

Huh!I really can't fathom why you're always in the habit of parrying shots for the US government. Is this the new kind of buttlicking?

But The Wall Street Journal now reports that the U.S. might get involved in those negotiations directly:

Senior White House and military officials believe that engaging some levels of the Taliban — while excluding top leaders — could help reverse a pronounced downward spiral in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan. Both countries have been destabilized by a recent wave of violence.

The outreach is a draft recommendation in a classified White House assessment of U.S. strategy in Afghanistan

Back to topic: I'm also against any negotiation with the undermentioned group,it simply spurs other groups to tow a similar line & subsequently request for amnesty or negotiations

Re: Don’t Negotiate With Boko Haram, Us, Eu Warn Fg by bohboh275(m): 5:54pm On Jul 09, 2011
Yes they should not engage in any conversation with them but i think the best strategy to use is set up some intelligence agency like the CIA (not all this detectives we have in Nigeria that can't even boot a computer) to get the right fact and every information about this Boko Haram then deliver it to the military so they know who are their targets and the military will take care of them. I am sure they have a camp somewhere in that borno state. They should put any suspected member phone number under surveillance and fellow up on their calls, text and every conversation. Someone in that ASO ROCK should be able to give GEJ all this Advise or maybe they are all just bunch of dummies.
