The Promise Of The Holy Spirit
(Acts 1:3-5, John 14:15-28)

After the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, he made several appearances to the disciples within a period of forty days. He gave them the Great Commission to evangelize the whole world by teaching and preaching to the people and to baptize them in the name of the father, Son and Holy Spirit. But he asked the disciples to stay in Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father before embarking on their mission which should start from Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and spread to rest of the world. The promise of the Father was the Holy Spirit or the Paraclete which would be their Comforter and Counsellor and would teach them all things.

At the end of the fortieth day, Jesus was ready to ascend into heaven. Therefore, he called the disciples together and reminded them again of the promise of the Holy Spirit He charged them not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait for the promise of the Father which they had heard from him. He said John the Baptist baptized them with water, but in a few days time they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
