As 2023 general elections approaches, the issue of zoning is once again central and, as usual, contentious. Why zone the leadership of the country to a particular region when any qualified Nigerian from any region is eligible to contest?

Why zoning? What is the essence of the Zoning Policy? And this zoning policy has it been put in place all this while? Where should the next President come from according to the Zoning Policy?

First things first Nigeria is a country of many nations .... treating Nigeria like a nation which is not would lead to problems

In the 1990s during the 1995 constitution conference it was agreed to create 6 geopolitical zones according to peoples who share alot in common ...the 6 zones where born ..do not perfect but the idea was clear

It was agreed that tho some zones are bigger than others they are to be politically equal ...that again was not obey

Zoning is simply making sure every zone in Nigeria produce president once so as to have a sense of belonging ...that's the essence of zoning

When it's the turn of a zone Nigerians look for the person from that zone n choose as president ...every zone has qualified people so no excuse

No some zones feel that maybe because of their large size they are now more equal than other zones

There is no official zoning in Nigeria but the rotating of the presidency between North and South.

When GEJ contested in 2015, the agreement was broken cos South was already having 13 years as president while North had less than 4 years.

Now that a northerner is about to complete his 8 years, its logical for power to return to south.

Where was it stated that the zoning is strictly between the North and the South? You people in the SW just sit down and write whatever you like?

How can someone in the SW whose region just left power in 2007 contest but someone from the NE whose region last tested power in 1966 not contest?

Where have you seen me saying other regions should no contest.. The logical explanation was disrupted by Pdp.. The 2019 election was between 2 Northerners, Southern regions that are showing interest now could have presented their candidate but they know its reasonable to try their luck after Buhari must have completed his 8 years

Zoning is a principle of agreement by different political parties, it's not a law rather is it a policy

The Policy we have backed by law is Principle of federal character

Which states all states must be a represented equally at the executive, judiciary, parliamentary and even Civil service
