Godly Characters, Part One by Prevail123: 10:35pm On May 05, 2022
LearnChrist Bible Study Meeting, Thursday 5th May, 2022|Pst Prevail Inegbenose

Topic: Godly Character, part one.

One of the aspects of our walk with God that needs urgent attention in our generation is godly character. Godly Character is a conduct/behavior that demonstrate the true nature and personality of God/Christ.

At LearnChrist bible study meeting this evening, we cited Jesus as our perfect example of godly character, as His life was a complete expression of it, John 8:29&46.
"Which of you convinceth me of sin?

Apostle Paul, on his part admonished; "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity." 1Tim 4:12. Read: Phil 1:27; 1Pet 1:15; Eph 4:17-32.

From the foregoing, we established that godly character is required of every believer. But the big question is, why does it seems to be neglected in our generation?

In answering the above question, we considered the followings as some of the likely reasons:

1. Lack of Self-control: We live in a generation where the concept of self control is taken lightly in the Christendom. We no longer wants to take the pain to discipline ourselves to do that which is right. Hear this, godly character is developed through obedience and self control. Apostle Paul, as endowed with grace as he was, he put himself under control, 1Cor 9:27. In like manner, you and I must take the same measure to ensure we manifest the character of Christ in our daily living.

2. Wrong Notions:
- The notion that it takes a supernatural encounter with Jesus to put up Christ-like character.
- The notion that some sought of grace is required to demonstrate godly character.
Listen, Apostle Peter, while writing to the Jewish believers said,
"Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall." 2Pet 1:10.
Noticed he said, "give diligence." What does it mean to give diligence? It means to make every effort - personal and planned effort to make your election sure. My brethrens, all we need to live godly is to know how much Christ loves us, and not some sought of power coming on us.

3. Inordinate Desire for Pleasure is Another Reason for the neglect of godly character: The truth is every believer knows he/she is expected to demonstrate Christ-like character. But undue and excessive lust for the works of the flesh is our bane...

4. Lack of Understanding of Who We Are In Christ was Also Considered: The bible says we are heir of God through Christ, Gal 4:7. It says again that we are complete in him, Col 2:10. Now, if indeed we know this, will it not be a thing of joy to demonstrate the character of the one we are complete in? Listen, when men struggle to represent Christ, it only means they have not known Him and who they are in Him.

5. Lack of Knowledge of The Sacrifices Christ borne for Us: I strongly believe it takes the knowledge of the pains, tortures and humiliation that Jesus borne for us, for a man to humble himself before Him. Jesus was mocked, smitten and spit upon for our sake. Do we know this? Do we realize this? Have we allowed it to sink into us and determine our walk with God?

I pray for you, from this day, God shall stir up your mind to demonstrate His characters in Jesus mighty name. God bless you richly!
