In continent Africa, there are seven universities and many are ranked among the top best universities in the globe.

These universities stand tall all in terms of academia and they are all scattered across the 54 countries on the continent.

Many have sought to know the best ten universities in Africa and we intend to bring you just that in the chart below;

1. University of Cape Town

In South Africa, the University of Cape Town is one of the oldest universities in the country and it has 'Good Hope' as its motto.
The University of Cape Town has ranked the best of all in Africa and it has a global score of 109 according to US News.com.

The University of Cape Town has 57 departments, 6 faculties, 1,208 academic staff and 3, 179 non-academic staff
The University of Cape has six different campuses of which some are urban while others are also suburban. The University offers degree, master's degrees and doctorate programs.

At Cape Town university, there are causes like Medicine and surgery, engineering and many others. Students from far and near have studied and are still studying in the school.
2. University of Witwatersrand

TheUniversity of Witwatersrand well known as the University of Wits is also situated in South Africa, Johannesburg to be precise and it comprises many campuses just like the University of Cape Town. Witwatersrand is a university for Research and awards both postgraduate and undergraduate degrees.
Witwatersrand University comes second in the top best ten universities in Africa and placed 212th globally.

It offers 3,600 courses which include postgraduate and undergraduate courses.

Since its founding, with regard to its name, the University of Witwatersrand has produced great personalities who have influenced the world with their pieces of knowledge. These personalities include Nelson Mandela.
3. Stellenbosch University

Also located in the Western Cape, South Africa, the University of Stellenbosch is ranked the third best university in Africa following academic excellence. It is a public university in South Africa and also the oldest university in Africa.

The University has four campuses and its motto reads, " Good education strengthens the spirit". The University is ranked 317th globally.

Just like any other university, the University of Stellenbosch award both undergraduate and postgraduate degree in a wide range of studies, including Law, Medicine, Surgery etc. It also has about 150 departments and ten faculties.

Irrespective of race, religion, tribe and others, the University is open to everybody. Students who prefer not to stay on campus have the alternative to stay in the school's hostels.
4. University of KwaZulu-Natal

The University of Kwazulu-Natal is ranked 371 globally and 4th in the whole of Africa. It is located in a province called Kwazulu-Natal hence its name and was founded in 2004 after it was merged with another university called the University of Durban Westville.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal has five campuses of which is the University Durban-Westville.

It has the 'Its colors are red and black' as its motto.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal has colleges which include the colleges of Health Science and three others.

The University also offers postgraduate and undergraduate degrees and it's friendly to international students.

5. Cairo University

Cairo University is the 5th best University in Africa. It was initially known as Egyptian University and later as the King Faud I University. It got the new name the University of Cairo because of its present location which happens to be the capital of Egypt. It is ranked 392 globally.

It was established in 1908 and has 20 faculties and three different instructions. It is amongst the top 50 centers for higher education in the world.

University of Cairo has its school of Medicine among the first schools of medicine to exist in a center for higher education in Africa, and its school of Law stands out as being amongst the best on the continent.
