It’s been almost 3 months since the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Nigeria shut down the country’s public top-tier tertiary institutions over issues with the federal government.

It’s even worse news for public university students, after ASUU announced a further extension of the strike by another 3 months.

We know how overbearing that can be, that’s why we’ve put together these 5 incredible TV series that have the potential to not only entertain and engage you, but also teach you new things and fine-tune your perspectives about life while you await ASUU and FG to green-light the resumption of schools.

The Journey Of An African Colony: The Making of Nigeria (Netflix)

“The Journey An African Colony: The Making of Nigeria” is a seven-part documentary series directed by BB Shasore, with sound design by Kulanen Ikyo and cinematography by Ola Cardoso. The series is based on two books — Possessed: A History of Law & Justice in the Crown Colony of Lagos 1861–1906 and A Platter of Gold: Making Nigeria — by retired attorney general and commissioner for justice in Lagos state, Olasupo Shasore who also serves as narrator. It tells the story of Nigeria’s making with an abundance of details and recalls how much of the West African country’s history has been thrown under the carpet.

Silicon Valley (HBO)

“Silicon Valley” is an American comedy series that aired its first episode on April 6, 2014, running a total of 6 seasons and 53 episodes. The show concluded in December of 2019. As the title implies, it’s a spoof of America’s tech capital and follows the story of Richard Hendricks, a talented programmer who founds a startup company called Pied Piper. It is packed with lots of humor, but also plenty knowledge about the lives of programmers and tech startups; the ones that never break even and the ones that make it to unicorn status.

The IT Crowd (Netflix)

“The IT Crowd” is another tech-themed series. It is a British sitcom that focuses on the lives of three IT workers and their crazy bosses. The show is very entertaining and gained cult status due to the performances of the cast and its dry humor. Its five seasons, 25 episodes are worth your attention.

Devs (FX, Hulu)

“Devs” is a highly enthralling sci-fi thriller directed by whiz indie filmmaker Alex garland (Ex Machina). It runs just one season of 8 episodes and follows the story of a software engineer (Sonoya Mizuno) who attempts to solve the mystery of her boyfriend’s death. The boyfriend, as it turns out, died on his first job at an IT company called Devs.

Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)

“Ted Lasso” is our last pick and stars Jason Sudeikis in its titular role. Coach Laso is an American football coach with family issues who ostensibly lands a job in England to steer a premier league club out of turmoil and potential relegation. Laso is confronted with the cutthroat football industry in England and must battle all the odds to do his job.

Thanks a lot, been looking for entertaining series to engage with my free time. I’m not really a fan of sci-fi so would appreciate it you can recommend other genres as well.
