Causes of infertility in females and male, cause, symptoms and solutions?

Let's discuss infertility

Infertility is simply the inability of a couple to carry pregnancy to term.

It can be Primary infertility: *When the couples are unable to get pregnant after More than a year of regular unprotected sexual activities*

It can be Secondary Infertility: *When the couples or either of them is unable to get pregnant or impregnate after having a child before. I.e either of the couple has given birth before, maybe in the same marriage/relationship, or in previous marriage, but they find it difficult to get pregnant again after series of trials and years of unprotected sexual activities.*

It can also be Sub-fertility: *This is when there's pregnancy, but the woman is unable to deliver to term due to Miscarriage/Ectopic pregnancy and other conditions that can hinder normal fertility process.*

*Causes*

Infertility is a comprehensive disorder that can be caused by hundreds of health and spiritual issues in both male and female.

Amongst the most common causes of infertility in females are:

*Deficiency in some Fertility Hormones (Hormonal Imbalance)*
Hormones such as Prolactin, Estrogen, Progesterone, Follicle stimulating hormone and Luteinizing hormone.

These are the 5 major hormones that regulate the female reproductive processes and Inflation or deflation(Increase or decrease) in any of these hormones can be a major factor behind infertility.

Other hormones such as *Anti-mullerian hormone*, can also cause difficulty in getting pregnant when it is low, simply because it indicates that the female ovarian reserve is low and this diminishes as a woman age/gets older.

Ovarian cyst: Cysts do not generally make it harder to get pregnant. But if the cysts are caused by an underlying condition like endometriosis, you might have problems with fertility.

Also large cysts can damage the ovaries, cause adhesions and block the fallopian tubes leading to more complicated infertility problems.

Tubal Blockage/Adhesion: Fertilization normally takes place in the fallopian tube after the egg have been released during ovulation and the sperm cell has successfully travel down to meet the egg in the fallopian tube for fertilization then implantation occurs in the uterus.

Some conditions such as Endometriosis, Pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroids, Complications of surgery, Candida infection, giant ovarian cyst and others can cause the fallopian tube to be blocked and the normal fertility process will be hindered, thus leading to infertility.

Fibroids: Generally speaking, fibroids is not a condition that usually cause infertility, except in the case of *Submucosal Fibroids,* submucosal fibroids are fibroids which protrude into the uterus and may affect fertility.

Also large fibroids that block the openings of fallopian tubes into the uterus will also likely affects the normal infertility process.

Some Certain Infections i.e Candida Albican, Gonorrhea and chlamydia.

These conditions can lead to Pelvic inflammatory disease (P I.d) which is a major cause of infertility in women.

Polycystic ovarian Syndrome/Disease (PCOS/PCOD): PCOS is one of the most common, but treatable, causes of infertility in women. In women with PCOS, the hormonal imbalance interferes with the growth and release of eggs from the ovaries (ovulation). If you don't ovulate, you can't get pregnant.

Other Common factors for infertility in women are:

 Alcoholism/Smoking
Usage of drugs that affects fertility process.
Over weight/Obesity which could be a cause for PCOS.
 Age
 Abnormal mensural circle.

Infertility in men is mainly caused by deficiency in the sperm count, Sperm Morphology and Sperm Motility.

In an healthy man, there should be at least 20 million sperm cells per ML(Milliliter) and he should ejaculates at least 2ml.

And the motility rate should be above 40%

And morphology rate 10% above is considered very good.

If there's any reduction in the above parameters, then the man's chances of impregnating his wife is low (Oligospermia / Low sperm count),

In some conditions, some men have *0 sperm cells*, this is called *Azoospermia / No sperm count*.

These two above conditions can be caused by many factors such as:

Having hypogonadism (Low testosterone hormone in men)

a genital infection such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea or prostatitis (infection of the prostate gland).

varicoceles (enlarged veins in the testicles).

previous surgery to the testicles.

The testicles becoming overheated.

Alcohol consumption, smoking and using drugs such as marijuana or cocaine.

Certain medications, including cancer medications (chemotherapy), some antibiotics and some antidepressants drugs.

 Being overweight or obese.

These are the common causes of infertility in both genders, and the major symptom is simply *Inability to Conceive or carry a pregnancy to term*.

*Solutions*

The causes of infertility as we highlight above varies, so also is the treatment and remedy for infertility, Therefore there's no unique general solution to infertility issues, treatment of Ovarian cyst will be different from the treatment of hyperprolactinema.

*Therefore; our professional advice is that before the commencement of any treatment for infertility issue, series of diagnostic tests should be carried out to know the Causative factor behind your infertility, then you can seek help professionally on the certain condition you are diagnosed with and how to treat it holistically.*

The following Diagnostic tests are advised to be carried out by both partners to confirm the cause of their infertility.

*For the Men*

 Semen Analysis
 Semen MCS
These first two are very necessary.
Further more, these ones below can also be encouraged for more full and proper diagnosis.
 Male hormonal Assay test.
 Scrotal ultrasound scan.

*For the woman*

 Pelvic scan
 High vaginal swab (HVS MCS)

Further test can include;
Female hormone profile test.
 HSG (Hysterosalpingography)
 Anti-mullerian Hormone test.

After these tests have been done, then you can consult a professional health care provider, to help Address your issues.
