Google Announces $4 Million Funding For African Start-ups: How To Apply by ayojademi(m): 1:49pm On May 18, 2022
Google announced on Tuesday that the second batch of the Google for Start-up Black Founders Fund will award a total of $4 million to 60 qualifying black-founded start-ups (BFF)

In a statement announcing the opening of applications for Google for the Start-up Black Founders Fund for Africa, Mr. Folarin Aiyegbusi, Google’s Head of Start-up Ecosystem, Africa, stated as much.

Following the success of the first cohort in 2021, Google increased its commitment in 2022 by one million dollars in funding and support for ten more founders, according to Aiyegbusi.

It will result in a four-million-dollar commitment to 60 qualifying Black-founded start-ups across Africa, he claimed.

BFF Africa is open to start-ups in Nigeria, Botswana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, according to him.

While the 13 countries were given priority because of their active tech and start-up ecosystems, he noted that good submissions from other African countries will also be evaluated.

“Our dedication to fostering ideas in underserved communities is demonstrated through the Black Founders Fund Africa.”.

“We are committed to assisting black-led tech start-ups to succeed in order to secure the prosperity of communities and economies in our region, despite an unfair venture capital funding environment.
