The Borno caucus in the National Assemby on Friday passed a resolution urging President Goodluck Jonathan to offer unconditional amnesty to members of the Boko Haram.

The caucus, led by Sen. Maina Lawan, told a news conference in Abuja that the resolution became necessary after a careful analysis of the security situation in Borno. Flanked by his colleagues in the Senate and members of the House of Representatives from Borno, Lawan said the amnesty would signify government genuine efforts for dialogue with members of the sect.

Lawan, who read the resolution of the caucus, urged the President to order the withdrawal of the military from Maiduguri and its environs. ``The caucus resolved to conduct an on the spot assessment to ascertain the extent of damage to lives and properties as a result of the losses.

``The Federal Government should engage the Yusufiya Group in dialogue in order to find a lasting solution to the crisis. The caucus commiserates with the victims and families of the innocent citizens who lost lives and properties in the unfortunate incident.”

Lawan expressed worry over the mass exodus of the people with its attendant effect of rendering people refugees. ``We are also worried by the closure of academic institutions, banks and other businesses as well as relevant agencies.

Asked how it would be possible for government to dialogue with faceless members of a sect, Lawan said while the caucus could not identify any members of the sect, security agencies knew who members of the Boko Haram were.

If the security agents knew who members of boko harams are, shouldnt the logic thing be for the Govt to take them into custody and interrogate them?
Why is unconditional amnesty their first response?

My Idea:

Boko harams
Massobs
ND Millitants

should all attack these incompetent leaders at once. No holding back.

This Lawan and his caucus should be taken in for questioning by an independent security team formed by GEJ since the security outfits have been implicated, unless GEJ himself is in the know. If GEJ is in the know then this is a case of abracadabra, Nigeria the land of Magic, what you see is not what you get.
