About 45 farmers have been reported killed by members of the Boko Haram terrorist group in Rann, Kala /Balge Local Government Area of Borno State near the Cameroonian border.

This came at a time 12 persons were killed in Gakurdi village, Jibia Local Government Area of the Katsina State on Tuesday.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday, said perpetrators would be brought to justice.

According to available information from security sources and the member representing Bama/Ngala/ Kala Balge constituency at the House of Representatives, Zainab Gimba, the 45 farmers were killed on Sunday on their farmlands.

Gimba, who confirmed the killing, said dozens of the attackers came on motorcycles while dead bodies were still being searched for on the farms.

“Large numbers of the terrorists armed with guns and machetes encircled the farmers and held them, hostage, before executing them one by one. The search for the bodies continues,” she stated.

Meanwhile, a statement signed by the spokesman of the Borno State Governor, Isa Gusau, said 32 persons were killed by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists around Mudu village some 45 kilometres away from Rann, Kala-Balge Local Government Area of Borno State last weekend.

The statement confirmed that six persons were injured while two escaped the attack unhurt.

The statement read in part, “Governor Zulum is very disturbed by the unfortunate killing of fellow citizens at the weekend. Pending a full report, the governor was briefed by the Majority Leader of Borno State House of Assembly, Mohammed Dige, who represents Kala-Balge where the victims hailed from.

“From the lawmaker’s briefing, a total of 32 youths are believed to have been killed by the insurgents. The youth were not farmers but highly enterprising young men engaged in gathering metals popularly called ‘Kayan Ajaokuta’, which are sold as raw materials for steel production.”

Buhari, on Wednesday, said the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

His position was contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled ‘President Buhari mourns Borno, Katsina victims of terror.
