Nasarawa APC Must Not Take Mass Withdrawal From House Of Assembly Race For Granted

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State must not take for granted mass withdrawal of Aspirants for House of Assembly across the state due to lack of faith in the process. Delegates' list that is full of civil servants and political appointees is unholy. The party should learn lesson from states that condoned substitution of delegates arbitrarily either single-handedly by certain political appointees in favour of certain Aspirants without even the knowledge of party officials and stakeholders against the list that was earlier sent to the party and adopted at the state level. Most Aspirants complained of not even knowing who the authentic delegates are since new lists kept on flying on a daily bases with alterations and replacement which raises serious doubt on the sanity of the exercise.

As a ruling party, desperate politicians should not be allowed to create a dangerous scenario that will put the party at a risk. The postponement of the party primaries for the House of Assembly which was scheduled to hold on the same day with Governorship primaries might not be unconnected with seeming outcry and resentments from Aspirants and party officials from respective local government areas where such unholy practices manifested. It is a matter of concern and for the purpose of emphasis that some delegates were substituted and replaced with civil servants and political appointees arbitrarily. It is very important that political appointees should know that they are not party officials and must not be seen hijacking the process thereby usurping the powers of party officials. This act of thuggery and impunity is alien to 21st century democracy.

Nasarawa State is lucky to have God-fearing people and true democrats in persons of Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule and Dr. Emmanuel A. Akabe as Governor and Deputy Governor respectively as well as credible people as party leaders in the state. Their tireless efforts towards making APC a vibrant and formidable party should not be thwarted by bad elements who are perpetual political parasites with no investment and stake in the party and do not care if the party faces electoral misfortune as a result of their selfish interest.

It is a thing of joy that Governor Abdullahi was re-elected to fly the flag of the party for the second tenure at the forthcoming general elections which from all indications, will be a walk-over. We must work towards the success of the party and be firm to sanction anyone whose conduct is undemocratic and anti-people. We owe the government and the party absolute loyalty and support and avoid any selfish act that will end up exposing the party to unnecessary internal crisis with its attendant consequences.

It is our hope and prayer that perpetrators of political mechantilism will stay off creating confusion and unnecessary schism that could adversely affect the collective love the people of Nasarawa State have for the APC at all levels.
