The Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has claimed that the Northern region conspired against the South at the just concluded PDP Presidential primary election.


Naija News reports that Ohanaeze was reacting to the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential flag bearer of the PDP in the 2023 general elections


Before Atiku’s emergence, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State had stepped down for Atiku and asked his supporters to vote for the former vice president.

Reacting to the development, Ohanaeze spokesman, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, said the Igbo group was not happy with the Northern conspiracy against the South-East.


Ogbonnia stated that the South lost the PDP Presidential ticket because all the aspirants from the region failed to support a South East aspirant to emerge as the party’s flagbearer.

He opined that the Northern aspirants were united and purposeful while the Southern hopefuls were disorganised and uncoordinated.

The Ohanaeze spokesman also claimed that the North through the instrumentality of the National Assembly had finally skewed the presidency to itself.

He told The Punch, “Ohanaeze is not happy about the conspiracy against the South and South-East in particular. Southern people that are struggling for the presidency they will not get especially when they can’t read the handwriting on the wall.

“You know the North has conspired against the South and the South should understand it. Instead of all the South-South and South-West giving validity and support to the South-East, they have been very busy struggling for it, therefore disarticulating themselves. So, where the North is united, the South is disarticulated.”

SE had 96 delegates but their votes went to Atiku while Ayim & Ohabunwa were scampering at the bottom. SE betrays SE, simple.

I don't even blame the SS that much, because for many years, and up till just a few months ago, they were solidly behind the 2023 SE presidency project, but because Tinubu and Osibanjo were already in the field, weakening the SE claim, after a while they fell into the bandwagon, as they felt Tinubu and the SW that had a weaker claim to the presidency than the SS, may well become successful in their usurpation. That was generally why SS presidential aspirants started emerging over the past few months.

But as of today, no SS person has ever disparaged the SE claim. They may disparage individuals, but never the SE claim.

It is only the SW players that have been solidly against the SE emerging, which is why I am happy that the NW is now staking their claim, especially now that they know the south is not united.
A SEner or a SSner will rather go to hell, than support Tinubu.

Believe you me, it is far better for the NW to take the presidency, than the SW. This is the same Tinubu that worked hard to ensure no Igbo man ever made it into the top 6 positions of the country.
The best move for Igbos to make now is to make sure Tinubu does not emerge, even if it means backing any of the NW candidates.
The SS has really only been there for just about 5 years, so they still have a slither of a claim.
