That fire would never stop on its own!
They need to engage a land drilling rig to drill a directional well from another location and kill the initial well by way of pumping concrete to seal off and plug the well.

This was exactwhat was done after the deepwater horizon incident in the gulf of Mexico.

Any other thing is shear waste of time and natural resources

Nigeria is so blessed with resources yet cursed with bad leaders and the most docile citizens on earth. The gas you see burning there is exactly what you need to fire electricity turbine to generate endless hours of electricity. In Imo State, it was recently discovered during an oil prospecting activities a huge gas deposit that dwarfs the entire crude oil deposit in Nigeria making Nigeria a gas nation as opposed to oil nation. But just to assembly turbines that will use these gas to produce electricity for hundreds of years coming is a big problem because we keep electing men like Buhari, Atiku, Tinubu who have nothing to offer.

I wish we have sensible leaders instead of the resources. It's like the resources is the reason our leaders lost there senses. Congo is another big example.

It's better to be wise than to have money then. Because a very rich man who is foolish will lose all his money to foolishness. That's the case with Nigeria.

While leaders at the presidential level so far have nothing to offer, we should look inwards. If Imo state and Enugu state have good governors, they should have developed the gas sector in their various states.

Obviously you do not know that the constitution leaves only the Abuja federal government with that sole responsibility to develop that by way of approvals through NNPC. It’s why we are in this corruption and poverty.

Did any state government create any gas company and sought approval which was rejected by FG?

We told them that Enugu is sitting on a huge pile of natural gas they thought we were joking.

Imagine a state where every inch of the ground beneath is covered with coal that state is certainly a huge pot of natural gas and oil.

But on a serious note I wouldn't want those to mined given how corrupt and reckless the center is they will turn our lovel 042 into Ijaw waste land.
Very correct... 3 months ago our well water suddenly changed to oil... We deep a paper in the water and it caught fire. I'm telling you Enugu state is an oil producing region and that explains the lack of good water. But people are unaware of this fact

How can they develop something they completely don't have control of? Till today imo state govt don't even have any knowledge of the amount of gas that's currently being pumped out daily to Bonny island for shipment abroad.

The constitution is just one obstacle standing in the way of governors’ not being able to do what you suggest….that is besides their visionlessness and inability to think outside the box! The other is the sort of politics of envy, hate, bigotry and hold-dem-down that’s being practiced in Nigeria…primarily from Abuja! A case in point is the recent inexplicable refusal by the NNPC to allow SEPLAT go ahead with its purchase of the onshore assets of Mobil (i think it was Mobile)!

Your constitution has declared all mineral deposit found on any land as belonging to Nigeria as a whole. The implication of that is that gas you see bursting out of the ground is automatically the property of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Meaning that that land where the gas is will be taken over by Federal Government that will just pay chicken change compensation to the land owner and the man in Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Ekiti etc may even get larger share than the man in Enugu on whose land the gas was found. That is why we have been clamouring for restructuring.
