This is a poor analysis of the situation, rather than a diminishing value of the Buhari personality cult I'd say this is evidence of the dictatorial tendencies of state governors and the failure.of these individuals to play local politics, for some the above two are valid for others just the former.
It's evident while these people have a relationship with Buhari he's not willing to support anyone's political ambition with him you are on your own when campaigning, we saw Alisha Buhari's brother loose APC guber primaries in Adamawa in 2019.


We've seen this same situation across the country in Ekiti Fayemi has imposed his candidate, we've seen same in Rivers where a man wanted by EFCC with an existing court summons waiting to be served has won the primaries to the dismay of other contestants, likewsiee in Kaduna, Kano.

In Abia the sanate minority whip Abaribe has now dumped PDP and we've seen former senate president Ekweremadu unable to get the governorship ticket, he lost to an individual(governor's candidate) who is not his match in national politics.

We say this same thing at the just concluded PDP presidential primaries where goverors decide how how deligates would vote and who the deligates would be. We've seen Tinubu, Osinbajo and Ameachi frantically trying to whoo the governors because they know this fact and we saw Wike bitterly complaining about betrayal by his fellow governors.

The almighty Ibori's governorship candidate in delta has just been defeated by Okowa's Candidate, politics in Nigeria is overwhelming dictated by the sitting governors.

You have it completely correct. Too many Nigerians allow their emotions to cloud their reasoning. Buhari still has control over the extensive levers of federal power, so if he had any personal inclination to place his relatives and stooges in office, he could certainly have done so with ease. I have been an unrelenting critic of Buhari's many failures and oversights for the last 7 years, not least for the decline in living standards caused by his statist policies, or the rampant insecurity he has allowed to fester, but on this particular issue I have to give the man some credit.

If only more Nigerians understood this restraint as the positive that it is, rather than treating it as a sign of "weakness", and then turning around to complain about "godfatherism" from other politicians who lack a similar respect for democratic norms.

What you don't understand is that, as long as the concensus isn't GEJ, apart from Tinubi, Buhari can get every other aspirant to step down for his favourite. And once that is achieved, more than half of the Governors will fall in line. The Governors that can loyally follow Tinubu to the very end are not even up to 8.

It is only GEJ as concensus that can scatter APC, but a semi popular concensus like Amaechi or Osinbajo will scale the hurdle, slimly.
