Adopting A Gentle Approach When Advising People Is Sunnah by Lukgaf(m): 5:53am On Jun 03, 2022
Adopting a harsh, rude, and arrogant attitude when inviting people to good or when admonishing them to refrain from bad is far from Islam.

When Allah Ta'ala commanded Moosa and Haroon (Alae solaatu wasalaam) to go to Fir'aun, He instructed them with the following; “Speak to him (Fir'aun) in a gentle (soft) manner, perhaps he will accept or he will fear (Allah).” (Surah Taha)

Abdullah bin Mughaffal (RodiyaLahu anhu) narrates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Verily Allah is gentle (kind) and loves gentleness. He gives (rewards) for being gentle (in actions) what He does not give when being harsh.” (Abu Dawood)

Aisha (Radiyah Allahu anha) narrates, “I was on a camel that was stubborn.” Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Be gentle. Gentleness is not added to something except it beautifies it and it is not removed from something except that it spoils it.” (Muslim)

Jareer bin Abdillah (R) narrates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Whoever is deprived of gentleness (kindness) is deprived of goodness.” (Muslim)

Gentleness is the opposite of harshness. A harsh, rude and arrogant attitude is contrary to the Sunnah. From the Quranic advice, we learn how, despite the haughtiness and arrogance of Fir'aun who proclaimed himself to be the Supreme Almighty, the command was to adopt a gentle approach with him. There is a greater chance of a person accepting and taking heed of the message if it is conveyed with gentleness and wisdom.

Therefore, be gentle with others and invite them towards good with wisdom and kind words.

Gentleness when advising people.

Hadith 1
Anas Bin Maalik said:
While we were in the masjid with the Messenger of Allaah, a Bedouin came; he then urinated in the masjid.
The Companions of the Messenger of Allaah said, “Mah Mah (An expression used to severly scold someone, to indicate the graveness of a matter).”
The Messenger of Allaah said, “Do not put a halt to his urinating, but instead leave him.”
They left him alone until he finished urinating.
The Messenger of Allaah called him over and said to him, “Any kind of urine or filth is not suitable for these masjids. Instead they are only [appropriate] for the remembrance of Allaah, the Prayer, and the recitation of the Qur’aan,” or this is near to what the Messenger of Allaah said.
He (saw) then issued an order to a man from the people, who then came with a bucket of water, which he poured over the [effected] area [of the masjid].
[Related by Muslim in his Saheeh, 285]

Hadith 2:
In another narration related by Abu Huraira, a bedouin once entered in the masjid, while the Prophet was seated inside.
The Bedouin prayed, and when he finished he said, “O Allaah, have mercy on me and on Muhammad, and do not have mercy on anyone other than us.”
The Prophet turned to him and said, “You have indeed constricted that which is vast.”
Then not too much time passed before the Bedouin urinated in the masjid. The sahaabah rushed towards him, and the Prophet (saw) said, “Pour a bucketful of water on it (i.e., on the effected area).” He (saw) then said, “Verily, you were sent only to make maters easy, and you were not sent to make matters difficult.”
[Related by Tirmidhi, 147, Ahmad 2/239. Tirmidhi said, “This hadith is Hasan Saheeh”. Ahmad Shaakir (7254) said, “Its chain is authentic.”]

Hadith 3:
And the following is in another narration:
After he understood [the wrong which he had done], the Bedouin said, “The Prophet (saw) stood before me – may my mother and father be ransom for him – and he (saw) neither cursed nor scolded nor hit [me]”
[Related by Ahmad 2/503. Ahmad Shaakir (10540) said, “Its chain is authentic.”]

All praises and salutations belongs to the our Creator Allah, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who glorified His Servant Jesus.
May His peace and blessings be upon the last of the spiritual messengers and teachers; Muhammad bn Abdullah, his household, companions and those who accepted his teachings till the day of final recompense.

Does the gentle approach involve stoning them to death?

Does it mean after stoning them to death, we should drag their body on the streets?

Does it mean we should burn them after dragging their corpse on the streets?

What gentle approach In killing people.. Hypocrite! If someone were to say negative things about ur God, it's all left for u to show an example by simply tolerance and apply that gentle approach u preach thereby making that person to have a remorse about wat he/she had previously said
