I am of the opinion that economy should decides politics, just as politics decides economy.

We have 36 states + FCT, making it 37.

Therefore we should create 10 electoral votes for every federating unit, making it 370 maximum electoral votes.

A state looses or gains electoral votes when considered it's productivity and contribution to the GDP.

With this, the era of using only the population of people (a docile, non-productive population for that matter) to decide the fate of the nation would become a thing of the past.
All the States would start doing their best to have a good quota in the contribution to the political quota in the nation.
..
..
For instance, if a particular state is just contributing 1% of the total GDP, then such state would have:

(1/100 * 370) = 3.7 (approximately 4 electoral votes)
..
..
If a state is contributing 5% of GDP, such state would have:

(5/100 * 370) = 18.5 (approximately 19 electoral votes)
..
..
A state that contributes 10% of GDP would have:

(10/100 * 370) = 37 electoral votes.
..
..
States like Lagos would likely have more than 10% contribution to the economy., and therefore, they should contribute more to the politics of the nation too

If you work more, you will have more. That is the way out.
..
..
The same thing should apply for the election of the State Governors.
The Economy of the Various LGAs should come into play.

The north is benefitting from the south but when it's election time, all things become equal.

OR, ALTERNATIVELY, THOSE STATES SHOULD START DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THEIR PRODUCTIVITY, SO THAT THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ECONOMY WOULD COMPETE WITH THE OTHER STATES..
..
IT'S VERY SIMPLE.!!
