The Ekiti State government has sacked about 5,000 workers across the 16 local government areas of the state.

It was gathered that the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, ordered the immediate sack of the council workers from the local government service of the state.
The affected workers cut across all cadres in the councils.

The chairman of the state Local Government Service Commission, Chief Aderemi Ajayi, who confirmed the sack of council workers, said the names of the affected workers had been removed from the July 2011 salary vouchers of their various councils.

According to Ajayi, the affected workers were alleged to have gained employment through the back door and issuance of fake certificates and falsification of birth certificates.

He explained that the lists of the affected staff were compiled by a special verification committee set up by the governor to look into the activities of the local government administration in the state.
