Masquerader Killed, Many Injured In Kogi Explosion



An explosion on Thursday evening claimed two lives including a masquerader leaving many others injured in Idoji area of Okene local government council of Kogi State.

The incident occurred at the Idoji part of the local government where the Echeane festival, an annual masquerade festival was ongoing. 

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the bomb suspected to be a local explosive was detonated in a gathering of spectators at the festival, adding that it left nails gouged in the wounded legs of some of the victims.

The Ahalil sunnah group of people who claimed to be Muslim sect in okene are known to have been assassinating prominent religious leaders of tijaniyat and some traditional leaders as well.

The residents however believed that the atrocities were also orchestrated by the Ahalil sunnah sect in okene as they are known to be cultivating terrorism in the area.

It is to noted that around 2012 a member of Boko Haram was caught when he was conveying explosive known to be locally made in okene for Boko Haram exploded in a filing station along okene-obehira way of the state.
