Officers of Orile Division of @LagosPoliceNG yesterday arrested a fake Naval rating, Ekeh Ifeanyi 'm.’ Investigations reveal he was recruited into the Nigeria Navy in 2010 and dismissed in 2011 from the Naval Ordnance Depot, Navy Town, Lagos. Arraignment follows.

Some people are asking why the police hid the suspects' faces. The reason is simply because parading suspects is extremely controversial.


The police parade suspects because they want the public to see the results of their work.

However, the law states that everybody is presumed innocent until they are found guilty by a court. Parading a suspect creates the impression in the minds of the public that the person is guilty. Such a person will face stigmatisation and may even be harmed even if he is later found not guilty by the courts. Therefore, lawyers have often condemned the police for parading suspects before the media.

The police have been accused of failing to comply with the law.


Now they have found a compromise by taking pictures of the suspects (to show the result of their work) but concealing their faces (in order to comply with the law).
