What The APC Presidential Primary Signaled To Igbo Presidency. by JoshuaSG: 10:26am On Jun 09, 2022
The ruling All Progressive Party Congress (APC), right from its victory in 2015, has exhibited a protean position towards Igbo inclusion in the party and its government, and the party’s igbo members have chosen to continue laughing to pocket their suffering rather than calling the party’s bluff for scamming them.

The clamor by the Igbos to occupy Abuja seat of power has raged on for decades, but the APC, after the party clinched victory in the 2015 presidential election, added salt to their injury by sidelining the Eastern region from the top five positions of government in the country—citing the reason that no lawmaker was elected on APC platform from the region.

In the aftermath of the election and the sharing of the top five political seats, which saw the Igbos out of the top slots for failing to produce at least an APC lawmaker, the party enjoins the Eastern region to embrace the party as a precondition for the zone to be fully included and actualize their long-awaiting hope of Igbo presidency, even though many political observants from within and outside the zone did not trust the party’s promise then—for they perceive APC and the president (Mohammed Buhari) to be anti-Igbo and harbor anti-Igbo agenda.

It was this promise of inclusion that led several politicians from the region to decamp from other parties and join the APC. The promised full inclusion and hope of the Igbo presidency brought the likes of David Umahi, Uzo Kalu, Jim Nwodo, Ken NNamni, and Azubuike Ihejirika into APC, making the party eventually secure two of the five states of the region.

But as things unfold now, the result of the just concluded APC presidential primary election, which allocated a paltry total of 40—out of 2340— (1.7%) votes to the Igbo contestants, has indubitably validated the doubts cast by political commentators in 2015 that the party’s excuse for secluding the Igbos out of the top five slots in 2015 and its promise to the eastern region was flabby.

For Umahi to secure only 38 votes, Onu and Chukwuemeka, 1 vote each, and Okorocha zero votes translates into a huge betrayal for the people of the sunrise region, whose sons Onu, Okorocha, and Nwajuba were part of the founding fathers of the party. The party has snubbed the appeal by its Igbo politicians that its presidential ticket was zoned to the Southeast, being the region that has never ruled from Aso rock since 1999.

Now, after their unceremonious, bitter, pathetic exit from the presidential race, we await what the likes of Onu, Okorocha, and Nwajuba will have to tell their kinsmen about their savior party that they had labored and sacrificed a lot to co-found, overworked to advertise and sweated to market to fellow easterners as the angel party that would gift them presidency and lead them to Aso rock but only to eventually cast their hope overboard and relegate them to the waste bin. Let’s also wait to hear from kalu, Nwobodo, and others who have divorced their party for their new love bird, the APC—all in the hope of the party’s promise of the presidency.

Denying the Igbos the presidential ticket in the just concluded primary and having rotated its ticket between regions that have wielded federal power for years, the APC stands no chance to actualize Igbo presidency at least 15 years from now. It appears the ‘promise and fails’ party had only succeeded in scamming the Igbos to join the party solely to secure the constitutionally required 25% victory votes spread.

It is time the party's Igbo politicians called the bluff of the party and started making realignments rather than acting as poltical beggars or minions that obsequiously seek political favor of the party's self-acclaimed power giving cabal.

The part in bold clearly shows the insincerity that has been the case of lots of you Igbo political analyst and opinion writers. You guys always think the rest of Nigerians are so stupid so you can write any falsehood and pass it on as facts. The SE had a total of 285 delegates and the breakdown is below:

SOUTH EAST
Abia 51
Anambra 63
Ebonyi 39
Enugu 51
Imo 81

So, how did you arrive at the part in bold that the party allocated 40 delegates to the SE candidates? Is the party responsible for allocating votes or allocating delegates?

If only 40 out of the 285 delegates voted for SE candidates, how’s that the fault of anybody? Why do you guys always find it very convenient to blame others instead of looking inwards and blaming yourselves for your wrong choices? Why are you guys never sincere in your political analysis?

Let’s hear word with all these igbo tears. Simon Ekpa will finally nail ndigbo in the coffin set by Ipob by 2023. At least we had a bit of relevance before the 2015 elections...for now,I don’t think so anymore. Ipob has damaged ndigbo

The part in bold is the number of votes won by the Igbo contestants in the party.
Of note, I am not an Igbo.
