Is Harvard University's Online MBA Worth It? We Explore The Pros And Cons. by RelatipsGIST: 4:00pm On Jun 09, 2022
First off, the answer to this question depends on several factors: your interests, the level of education you already have, and your goal(s) in attending business school.
If you’re interested in working toward an online MBA at Harvard University, here are some reasons why it could be worth it as well as some reasons why it might not be worth it for you at all. 12 things you can't get from an online MBA
Many people are surprised to learn you can't get a real MBA from an online program. Here are 12 things that aren't part of your typical degree: offline classes, campus life, networking events, industry mentorships, career counseling, job placement services or alumni support.
An online MBA is basically just a second bachelor's degree, only more expensive.
If that doesn't bother you though and you still want to earn a Harvard education at home while working full time, here are three important things to keep in mind.

1. You're paying for convenience:
There's no doubt about it; an online MBA is convenient. It allows students to work on their own schedule without having to relocate or quit their jobs. But convenience comes at a price, as many students pay up to $200k for their degree (though some programs charge less). Not only does that price tag make it one of the most expensive degrees available today, but there are also serious questions about whether such high tuition rates are justified given how little interaction students have with professors and other students throughout their coursework.

2. Online learning isn't always effective:
Online learning may be convenient, but it's not always effective. Students who take courses online tend to perform worse than those who attend traditional schools (perhaps because they don't have enough face-to-face contact with teachers), and they often drop out of their courses more frequently than those who attend traditional schools do. That means even if you manage to finish your degree, you might end up failing anyway due to poor performance.

3. Your peers won't be Ivy League grads: One big advantage of attending a brick-and-mortar school is that you'll meet other students who share similar goals and values, something that simply isn't possible when taking courses online.

8 Reasons You Should Go For An Online MBA

1) You’re too busy:
Getting an MBA might sound like a lot of work and it can be, especially if you enroll in an on-campus program, but if you choose to go for an online program, your coursework will only take up about three to four hours a week (roughly 18 to 22 hours per month). This makes for relatively light coursework compared to similar programs at most business schools.

2) It’s cheaper:
A year of tuition at Harvard Business School is $53,000. Compare that to a year of tuition at Michigan State University’s Broad College of Business ($28,800), or Arizona State University’s W.P Carey School of Business ($21,400), and you'll see why many people are choosing to get their MBAs online instead. 3) It saves time:
An MBA is designed for working professionals who need flexibility when it comes to scheduling their classes around other obligations such as family or full-time jobs. With an online program, you can learn from anywhere with Internet access, no more worrying about missing class because your car broke down or because there was traffic on your way home from work!

5 Reasons You Might Not Want to Go For an Online MBA
If you’re a working professional, you might have been thinking about going back to school for an MBA. If so, then you should be familiar with some of these drawbacks:

1) Cost:
Going to school isn’t cheap (this is true for any degree), but most schools offer some kind of financial aid package that can help offset at least some of your costs. However, if you choose to go for an online MBA program, there may be less support in terms of scholarships or other forms of financial aid.

2) Time:
Online programs require self-discipline and careful planning on your part. In fact, many people who are successful in their studies say they spend more time studying when they’re taking classes online than they did when they were in traditional settings.

3) Lack of Face-to-Face Interaction:
While distance learning has come a long way over the years, there are still advantages to being able to interact with professors and fellow students face-to-face on occasion, especially if you’re new to learning how to study independently or are trying something new like studying abroad.
