I have selected the top four contenders in my opinion and grouped them based on their chances.

Could Win

Sadio Mane, Robert Lewandowski and Mohamed Salah

It is a possibility that any of these three players could win the Ballon d'Or. It probably wouldn't raise up much arguments.

Sadio Mane has a lot of things in his advantage such as his 26 goals and four assists for club and country as well as winning the Africa Cup of Nations, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Salah has two trophies (FA and Carabao) but lost the Nations Cups to his compatriot, Mane's home country. He was being hailed as the world’s best player at the back end of 2021 and eventually finished up with a record of 31 goals and 15 assists.

Also on this list is Robert Lewandowski who was pitched to win the last Ballon d’Or but lost based on a technicality to Lionel Messi. He hasn't been talked about a lot but he won yet another European Golden Shoe and had a tally 50 goals.

Should Win

Karim Benzema

It would be daylight robbery if Karim Benzema doesn't win it.

He had a really great season and the cherry on top was Real Madrid getting their 14th Champions League title.

Benzema bagged 15 goals in 12 games in the UCL which included hat-tricks against Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea as well as three goals in two legs against Manchester City. Not to forget that he scored 27 La Liga goals and secured the Pichichi Trophy alongside the La Liga trophy with Real Madrid. He also managed to wrap his hands around the Supercopa de España and the UEFA Nations League title.

If this isn't enough to get him the Ballon d'Or, I don't know what else is.
