What is the mission of Green Environment Initiative

Green Environment Initiative is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) involve in plastic waste collection in our waterbodies (Ocean-shores, riverbanks, Lagoon front, canals and other waterbodies). Their mission is to solve the menace of plastic waste impact on our environment particularly the aquatic environment. This initiative vision is to get this plastic waste and send them for recycling, as research shows that plastic waste bottles stays in the environment for 450 to 500 years before decomposing, it’s clear that this would affect our fourth to fifth generation, if we don’t pick-up the plastic waste today and recycle them for another useful product.
This is the first of its kind, were young professional are coming together to clean up our ocean littered with plastic waste, with contribution of corporate organisation like yours will be able to achieve our goals.

Why do your organisation concentrate on Plastic Waste

Plastics are durable; their toughness and inertness are what make them so useful. Unfortunately, they’re so durable that they break down very slowly in a landfill when plastics find their way into the environment – into ocean, for example – they can break down more quickly, but they still take a long time to biodegrade; a plastic bottle may take a century to break down, for example, while a plastic beverage holder could take four centuries.
The plastic waste have virtually choked the drainage system in the urban centers of the country to such an extent that it takes only the slightest of rainfall to precipitate floods in major cities like Lagos, Port-harcourt, Warri, Eket and other coastal area in Nigeria.
