Nigeria is the largest consumer of palm oil in Africa with a population of 200 million people.

Nigeria produces 900 metric tonnes of palm oil, but national demand stands at 1.7 - 2.1 million metric tonnes.

The country had 45 per cent share of the global industry in 1960 but its current market share has fallen to only 1.7 per cent due to age-long neglect.

If Nigeria had maintained its 45 percent share today, it would have been earning $14 billion annually from palm oil.

Oil palm products are still in short supply in Nigeria today going by the recent preliminary market analysis suggesting that an additional 800,000 tons of palm oil can easily be absorbed.

Thus, there is enough evidence that oil palm plantation and palm oil production is a highly profitable business in the country and a venture that any smart investors should give utmost attention.

Let's restore the lost glory together, let's this be the year you finally own an oil palm plantation!
