Three Things To Know Should You Decide To Study In The UK by educereGuy: 7:45am On Jun 22, 2022
These days, a lot of Nigerians are flocking to the UK in droves all under the guise of getting a degree. They take their kids, nephews and dogs along for the ride, with the expectations that settling down after they finish their studies would be as easy as taking candy from a baby.
However, a lot of the agents involved in the process do not bother to clue their clients in to some of the salient points one needs to consider if they choose to make a move like this, three of which we will now be talking about.

IT WILL COST YOU PLENTY OF MONEY
The first thing you need to know is that international students contribute 30 billion pounds every year to the British economy. To the British government, you are a paying client, if you know what I mean.
Your expenses start from Language test exams (IELTS for the UK), then you have to pay for admission fee, delivery fee, transcripts, the list goes on. The average tuition cost for an 18 – month graduate degree program in the UK is 13,000 to 15,000 pounds. Then there’s living expenses and miscellaneous fees. By the time we tally up the total bill, you’re talking an average of 5 million naira.

THERE ARE SCHOOLS, AND THERE ARE SCHOOLS
Just like you can’t compare OAU to Kaduna state university, you also can’t compare any of the G5 Universities to the University of Bradford. Now, to a lot of Nigerians, the particular school that you end up attending matters little, and the course of study matters even less, as long as they’re tweeting from the UK.
However, the prestige and ranking of the school you attend affects the opportunities available to you and also impacts how easy it is to integrate into British society, which, I assume is the point of spending all that money.

IT’S NOT THAT EASY TO GET A JOB BEFORE YOUR 2-YEAR VISA EXPIRES
Getting a job is the entire point of why you got that degree that you don’t really need. What they don’t tell you however, is how laborious the process is, how low the chances are of getting a job that meets the visa requirements, and how little the time you have available to do this, is. Except for Health care professionals, it’s very difficult for you to find a white-collar job that a white man from Liverpool can’t do better.
Now some of these conditions have been relaxed in the wake of Brexit, however, this does little to address the situation of foreigners being discriminated against. Londoners can’t even stomach the blokes from Yorkshire, much less Mr. Tunde with the heavy African accent.
