In today’s world, the use of technology is inevitable. Technology fuels entrepreneurship and Information Communication Technology (ICT) has reduced distances to make the global market more accessible than ever which has minimized the gap between labour and demands.

ICT can boost the performance of people and improve overall human capital for alleviation of poverty in a society. Having just a basic understanding of ICT and how to use computers is a distinct advantage that can open up a lot of opportunities for youths.
People can reach the global labour market through information communication technology which has enabled independent youths to connect to potential employers who value their skills. But due to a lack of training and skills, youths are unable to use the resources and there is insufficient accountability to follow up on sustainable opportunities.

According to the national bureau of statistics (NBS), unemployment among Nigerian youths (aged 15-34years) is the highest in the country with 21.72 million or 42.5% of the 29.94 million youths in the labour force employed while the national employment rate stood at 33.3% as at December 2020. It is estimated that youths' unemployment would have risen to about 60% when the latest figures will be released.
This youth’s unemployment has become a time bomb waiting to explode with its consequences.

The online job market is quite large and is expanding at a rapid pace according to a World Bank statement in August 2014; fifteen jobs are created online every second. This reveals how efficient and dynamic the online labour market has become, which shows that ICT is an antidote for the anguish youths are facing in our country.

Furthermore, ICT has made it easier than people don’t need to do dangerous tasks and can work in a better environment. It is more flexible because you can work at your own work time and can set your own space. Reducing unemployment among youths, ICT are influencing employment both as an industry that creates jobs and as a tool that empowers workers to access new forms of work.

It has contributed to income generation and poverty reduction in a way that it enables people and enterprises to capture economic opportunities by increasing process efficiency, promoting participation in expanded economic networks and creating opportunities for employment that could help tackle global unemployment among youths.

Every year, millions of Nigerian youths enter the labour market after completing their university /tertiary education and also completing their one year NYSC. It is worrisome that two third of these young graduates won’t get government employment anywhere. Unfortunately, the government’s job creation programmers have not been effective but all thanks to ICT that brought about telecommunication industries which have opted to clear this menace by providing youth empowerment programmes.
