Due to its commitment to resolving disputes with the university-based unions, the Federal Government has guaranteed that academic activities would begin in earnest.

Currently on strike are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Senator Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, stated that the strike's end is imminent following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Denying the claim that the Federal Government intended to change the payment schedule for unions, the minister stated that the government had called all pertinent agencies, including the National Information Development Agency (NITDA), to brief it on the progress made in resolving the contentious issues that had sparked the unions' ongoing strike.
