Rivers United have officially won the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) today.
The team was on 71 points 10 more points more than their closest rival Plateau United who had been on a chase with 61 points s going into this week 35 matches.


However a lost today by Plateau united to Akwa United in Uyo 2-1 means Rivers United have been crowned champions within kicking the ball this week. Because plateau united remains at 61 points and have 3 games to go. So even if they win all 3 remaining games at best they will have 70 points. Which means even it River united lose all their own remaining 4 game they still one points ahead of Plateau united.


So give it up for the Worthy champions of the Nigerians league Rivers United who have not kept anyone in doubts of their intentions from start to finish as they were completely dominant this season..

Rivers United FC's history :


The team was founded in 2016 after the River State government received permission to merge the Dolphins and Sharks Football Clubs. The merging occurred following the difficulties they had in finances off the pitch. As a result, The Pride of Rivers' crest consists of both a shark and a dolphin. The team rose to stardom following their performance in the 2016 Nigerian Premier League in which they took second place and qualified for the 2017 CAF Champions League for the first time.

Rivers United have been so fantastic this season in the NPFL claiming some points (22) on the road, I really commend them. Same thing with Remo Stars but dropped out at a point.

Plateau United also has a stallion performance.

I felt the owner of MFM football team said fasting and prayer work in football when they surprised everyone in their debut season some years back. See them languishing at the foot of the table since the season began.
