FG Asks All Educational Department To Implement The Retirement Age Of Teaching Staff From 60 to 65 years, A Bill Sponsored By Reps Deputy Minority Whips, Rt Hon Adesegun Abdel-Majid Adekoya







The federal government of Nigeria, has implemented the retirement age of teachers, assistant education officers, and technical instructors from 60 years to 65 years, with 40 years length of seevices today 25th of June, 2022.

Recall that the bill was sponsored and received assent by President Mohammadu Buhari this year 2022 to enable the teaching professionals have more time to exhibit their skills in their respected fields of study.

According to the directive signed by Andrew, David Adejo, The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Abuja, directing the teaching profession, education officers and assistant technical instructors to apply the 65 years length of service and 40 years length of services would apply irrespective to their postings.

RE: IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW RETIREMENT AGE AND LENGTH OF SERVICE FOR THE TEACHING PROFESSION (EDUCATION OFFICERS, ASSISTANT EDUCATION OFFICER AND TECHNICAL INSTRUCTORS)

Following the enactment of the harmonized retirement Age for Teachers in Nigeria Act. 2022 recently signed into law by His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, the new retirement age of 65 years and length of service of
40 years would apply to all Education officers irrespective of their posting while emphasizing more chalk-in-hand Teachers with a view to maintaining standard, monitoring and inspectorate functions.

2. Arising from the above, there would no longer be boundaries in the implementation of the harmonized retirement age/length of service for Education
oficers/Teachers. However, those who are not interested in the elongation.

Scheme should apply for retirement from service in line with extant Public Service

Rules.

3. This circular supersedes earlier circulars on the subject as the harmonized retirement Age Act. 2020 is superior to any guideline.

4. Please, bring the content of this circular to the attention of all Staff for guidance.
