Hocus Pocus 2 is set 29 years after the events of the first film. It sees the 17th-century witch sisters resurrected after high school friends relight the Black Flame Candle and spark a whole new adventure. Now, it’s up to these students to put a stop to the witches before they wreak havoc in Salem once again.

Disney released a new synopsis for the sequel to the cult-classic comedy, teasing Hocus Pocus 2’s spooky stakes:

“It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve. “Hocus Pocus 2” also stars Sam Richardson (The Tomorrow War), Doug Jones (The Shape of Water), Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl), Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories), Lilia Buckingham (Dirt), Froyan Gutierrez (Teen Wolf), and Tony Hale (Veep). The film is directed by Anne Fletcher (Dumplin,’ The Proposal) and produced by Lynn Harris (King Richard, The Shallows), with Ralph Winter (Hocus Pocus, X-Men franchise), David Kirschner (Hocus Pocus, Chucky) and Adam Shankman (Disenchanted, Hairspray) serving as executive producers.”

The original Hocus Pocus (1993) tells the story of Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson, a trio of witches who are executed for their crimes in 1693. 300 years later, the sinister sisters are summoned into existence by a group of unsuspecting children who must work together to rid the world of the witches’ evil once and for all. The film received mixed reviews with critics enjoying its hokey sense of charm and humor but lamenting its often uninspired writing and direction.
Hocus Pocus 2 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on Sept. 30.
