Topic: The Relevance of The Old Testament.

"Oh no pastor, that's in the old testament", he said. "Yes I know, but it's God's word." I responded. "Listen, we are now under a new covenant." He added.

The question is does the new covenant makes God's word in the old testament irrelevant?

It is noteworthy to state that Jesus Christ Himself made several references to the old testament during His earthly ministry. The apostles also did. Besides, the old testament is the revelation of the new testament.

We, at LearnChrist noted that, though there are certain practices in the old testament that Christ puts an end to; it shouldn't be considered to be irrelevant because the testament is God's words and helps us to properly understand the new testament and the new covenant.

We noted further that;
1. If holy men were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the old testament, how shall we whom the scriptures is given considered it irrelevant?

2. If the old testament was irrelevant, the men whom God gave the wisdom to compile His words would have omitted it.

3. The end to some practices in the old testament by Christ's redemptive work doesn't necessarily make the entirely testament irrelevant; just as the removal of some topics in a book...

How shall we understand the new testament and Christ's redemptive work (the new covenant) without the old testament. It is a shadow of things to come, Heb 10:1. So, for one to have a deeper knowledge of the new covenant and holds it in high esteem, the old testament must be considered relevant.

We therefore counselled that God's words is God, and no part of the scriptures should be considered irrelevant no matter how rightly we try to divide the word.
