PC Games From The Past To The Present by AlbertWilliams(m): 7:48pm On Jul 01, 2022
When did the first PC games appear? Not everyone knows that this happened in the 1940s.

Today you can buy great games on Yuplay. The first attempts to invent simple versions of today's PC games were made before World War II. At the same time, in 1947, they created the first electronic game. The monitor for him was the military radar screen. It was a simulator of enemy missiles. There is also an opinion that the first computer game was OXO or tic-tac. Founded by Douglas in 1952s.

They later came up with the Tennis for Two program. It was created and implemented by William Higginbotham. This happened in 1958 in New York. Visitors to the lab had the opportunity to play tennis on a digital court. Joysticks are used to control the missiles.

Computer laboratories in universities
In the early 1970s, MIT's Computer Science Laboratory formed a "Dynamic Modeling Group" to work on the MDL language. To demonstrate its innovative capabilities, the programmers decided to write a simple toy.

At the same time, the Stanford AI Lab came up with the same experimental product. It was an improved text game by William Crowther. They called it the Colossal Cave Adventure. Subsequently, the word "Adventure" became a household word.

The first game with the display of the image on the TV screen

In 1966, Ralph Bayer released the first television game, Chase. It can be played by displaying the image on the home TV screen. In 1967, a number of interactive games were invented that required a beam gun.

UNIX operating system for the game
In 1969, programmer Ken Thompson developed a game for the MULTICS operating system. It was called Space Travel. There, the player had to travel in a spaceship and land it on different planets.

After the project closed, Ken was forced to look for a new computer for his game. They became the device of General Electric. However, this cost a fortune, so Thomson moved the game to an old PDP-7. That's why he had to create the UNIX operating system.

The era of slot machines
In 1971, the game "Spacewar" was placed on small electronic boards and connected to a TV. This is how the first slot machine was created. A total of 1,500 such devices have been produced. This was the impetus for the transition of PC games to the masses.

Atari's creations and the games "PONG", "Space Invaders" and "Asteroids"
The video game company Atari was founded in 1972. Debny and Bushnell did it. The brand soon released the mega-popular "PONG". I must say that a lot of it is borrowed from "Tennis for Two". In total, with this program we managed to sell almost 2000 machines. It was the first game in history to pay off many times over.

In 1978, another developer, Taito, proposed another super popular project - "Space Invaders". Atari Corporation saw how people needed a spectacle and launched another commercially successful product, Asteroids.

The appearance of the first shooters, shooting games and quests
In 1971-1980, two famous archers appeared - "War of the Labyrinths" and "SpaSim". In the same period the first text game-quest "Adventure" was created. The first prototypes of network games and pictures of text symbols were also developed.

In addition, the first personal computers for the home began to appear in the mid-1970s. This has led to an increase in the number of home programmers and the emergence of books and magazines on the subject. In 1975, the slot machine market was dominated by products of Atari, Magnavox, Coleco, Sears. In the same year, the Atari brand introduced the Breakout machine. This required the board to push the ball, which broke the cubes. This creates a new genre. It was called an arkanoid.

The era of video games
A few years later, the era of video games began. It was marked by the creation of consoles and cassettes.

Consoles and cassettes
In 1976, portable storage media appeared. These are called ROM cartridges. This made it possible not to sew games on a computer, but to record them on cassettes and put them in special slots. Thanks to this, it was possible to play different games on one device.

As a result, computers are called consoles. The first version of such devices was the 1976 VES, published by Fairchild. However, this console did not gain widespread popularity. Much more common were VCS, Intellivision, ColecoVision.

VCS was established in 1977 and has become the most popular console. It had an eight-bit processor. In 1980, the Intellivision console appeared. There was an even more powerful ten-bit process and a productive video chip.

In 1977, the Apple Computer brand offered consumers the $ 1298 Apple II personal computer. It became the first available computer to be sold as a finished product. The first commercial graphics games were made for this computer. It was with this device that ordinary people began to become acquainted with PC games.

Pocket console
The first pocket console was created in 1979 by the famous American company Milton Bradley, specializing in table toys. This widget is called Microvision. It had a monochrome 16x16 pixel square LCD screen. 12 games have been developed for the console. The size of each of them was 2 kilobytes.

In 1982, the ColecoVision console was developed. He was more powerful than his predecessors. However, the monopoly of the three main manufacturers of such devices has led to a fair collapse of the market.

The era of popularization of home consoles
Gradually, home consoles are becoming more popular. This is primarily due to their availability.

The advent of Nintendo
In 1980, the Japanese brand Nintendo began creating simple consoles that were equipped with a monochrome screen. Its purpose was to create compact devices to carry with you when traveling. The result was a series called Game and Watch.

In 1982, the Commondore 64 and the English eight-bit computer Sinclair Zx Spectrum were created. The second device can be called legendary without exaggeration. It spread rapidly and continued to be sought after for more than a decade.

With the advent of IBM computers, games have become popular again. Manufacturers began offering consumers new gaming chips, 16-color and then 256-color standards. This made it possible to create more beautiful and complex PC games.
