African Women's Power Rankings: Super Falcons Dominate As Stage Set For AWCON by Milliator(f): 5:39am On Jul 04, 2022
June was effectively a transitional month for many of Africa's top women's footballers between their club schedules and the Africa Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Morocco from July 2-23. However, four Super Falcons stars still found time to excel for their clubs in Sweden and the USA before the international break, while there have been standout performances elsewhere in Africa during AWCON warm-up games.

Rankings according to ESPN:

1. Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, Eskilstuna United

Uchenna Kanu left the Damallsvenskan for Mexico's Tigres UANL after last season, but Nigerian internationals continue to shine in the league and Okobi-Okeoghene was June's standout performer.

2. Anam Imo, Piteå

Imo netted twice in Piteå's 3-1 win over Umeå on June 5, putting her team 2-1 up in the 38th minute and then scoring a penalty in the 88th to put the result beyond doubt.

3. Ifeoma Onumonu, Gotham FC

Having been on target for Gotham in their 1-0 win over Angel City on May 30, Onumonu turned provider on June 5 as she teed up Midge Purce for the only goal in another 1-0 victory, this time over Washington Spirit.

4. Michelle Alozie, Houston Dash

Alozie was relegated to a bit-part role at Houston Dash last season, but is fulfilling her potential in the 2022 campaign and scored her first goal in the NWSL in a 5-0 thrashing of Orlando Pride.

5. Ajara Nchout, Inter Milan

Nchout found her scoring boots over the past season with Inter Milan, netting eight times in 18 Serie A Women appearances. In a 2-2 friendly draw with Senegal, she recently reminded Africa why she is Cameroon's star player.

6. Samya Hassani, Gent

Hassani bagged a brace for Morocco in a 7-0 friendly drubbing of Congo three weeks ago, netting in the 47th and 81st minutes.

7. Salma Amani, Saint-Malo

Amani, who is at the opposite end of her career to Hassani, also scored twice against Congo in Morocco's recent friendly.

8. Barbra Banda, Shanghai Shengli

Based on talent alone, Banda should regularly feature at or near the top of our rankings. However, a lack of regular club football during her time in China in recent years due to the short league season means her presence has been less frequent than it would otherwise have been.

9. Khadija Er-Rmichi, FAR Rabat

During pre-tournament warmup matches, Morocco's performances suggest that they have one of the strongest defences in the AWCON.

10. Grace Chanda, BIIK Kazygurt

Chanda has been one of the most influential players in a successful era for Zambian women's football. It is no surprise, then, that the forward finally earned an overseas move to BIIK Kazygurt in Kazakhstan recently.

Why not put in their pictures.
